Neuroimaging has an essential role in studies of brain health and of cerebrovascular and neurodegenerative diseases, requiring the availability of versatile magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) acquisition and processing protocols. We designed and developed a multipurpose high-resolution MRI protocol for large-scale and long-term population neuroimaging studies that includes structural, diffusion-weighted and functional MRI modalities. This modular protocol takes almost 1 h of scan time and is, apart from a concluding abdominal scan, entirely dedicated to the brain.

Xolography is a volumetric 3D printing technique utilizing intersecting light beams within a volume of photopolymer for a spatially controlled photopolymerization. Unlike layer-based methods, Xolography creates structures continuously within a closed photopolymer vat, eliminating the prevalent need for support structures and allowing full geometrical freedom at high printing speeds. Methyl magnesium bromide is a precatalyst for the dehydrocoupling of silanes and amines to produce aminosilane products under mild conditions. As a commercially available Grignard reagent, this precatalyst represents a simplification over previous magnesium-containing catalysts for Si-N bond formation while displaying similar activity to other magnesium-based catalysts. We report an unusual constellation of diseases in a 32-year-old woman with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) diagnosed with the recently described precursor entity of malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor (MPNST), the so-called atypical neurofibromatous neoplasm with unknown biological potential (ANNUBP) and a large symptomatic cervical arteriovenous fistula. An [F] 2-Fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose PET/CT (FDG-PET/CT) was performed to detect and stage a conspicuous symptomatic cervical tumor. The FDG-PET/CT showed high FDG uptake in one of the multiple known tumorous lesions associated with peripheral nerves.

Inversions have been proposed to facilitate local adaptation, by linking together locally coadapted alleles at different loci. Prior work addressing this question theoretically has considered the spread of inversions in "continent-island" scenarios in which there is a unidirectional flow of maladapted migrants into the island population. In this setting, inversions capturing locally adaptive haplotypes are most likely to invade when selection is weak, because stronger local selection (i) more effectively purges maladaptive alleles and (ii) generates linkage disequilibrium between adaptive alleles, thus lessening the advantage of inversions.
