Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) from Gram-negative bacteria induces an immune response and impairs reproduction through suppression of gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH), subsequently luteinizing hormone (LH) secretion. While there is evidence that acute inflammation inhibits kisspeptin, little is known about the impact of chronic inflammation on this key reproductive neuropeptide in livestock species. Puberty onset is a complex physiological process, which enables the capacity for reproduction through increased gonadotropin-releasing hormone and subsequently luteinizing hormone secretion. While cells that coexpress kisspeptin, neurokinin B (NKB), and dynorphin in the hypothalamic arcuate nucleus are believed to govern the timing of puberty, the degree to which kisspeptin/NKB/dynorphin (KNDy) neurons exist and are regulated by pubertal status remains to be determined in the gilt. Hypothalamic tissue from prepubertal and postpubertal, early follicular phase gilts was used to determine the expression of kisspeptin, NKB, and dynorphin within the arcuate nucleus.

The developmental neurotoxicity of calcium cyclamate was evaluated in Sprague Dawley [Crl:CD(SD)] rats, administered in drinking water, in comparison to a concurrent control group (water) and a positive control group given propylthiouracil (PTU). Calcium cyclamate was administered to F0 females for 4 weeks prior to pairing, throughout mating, gestation and lactation and to F1 offspring from weaning to 12 weeks of age, PTU was administered by gavage to F0 females from Day 6 of gestation up to Day 20 of lactation. Unlabelled: Undernutrition impairs reproductive success through suppression of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), and subsequently luteinizing hormone (LH), secretion. Given that kisspeptin and neurokinin B (NKB) neurons in the arcuate nucleus (ARC) of the hypothalamus are thought to play key stimulatory roles in the generation of GnRH/LH pulses, we hypothesized that feed restriction would reduce the ARC mRNA abundance and protein expression of kisspeptin and NKB in young, male sheep. Fourteen wethers (castrated male sheep five months of age) were either fed to maintain (FM;  = 6) pre-study body weight or feed-restricted (FR;  = 8) to lose 20% of pre-study body weight over 13 weeks.

This paper provides empirical evidence by exploring the effects of farm debt measured by debt-to-asset ratio on dairy productivity and profitability, using the New Zealand DairyBase data of 2,637 dairy farms for a 10-yr period 2005 to 2014.

Although previous studies have investigated the effects of production intensification on farm economic performance and production efficiency in the dairy sector, knowledge is currently lacking on how intensification is related to farmer activities directed toward animal health outcomes. This study addresses the gap in the literature. A fixed-effects model estimated with a panel data set from New Zealand dairy farms is used to analyze the relationship between feed use intensification and animal health expenditure, controlling for a range of confounding effects.

Tatton-Brown-Rahman syndrome (TBRS; OMIM 615879), also known as the DNMT3A-overgrowth syndrome, is an overgrowth intellectual disability syndrome first described in 2014 with a report of 13 individuals with constitutive heterozygous variants. Here we have undertaken a detailed clinical study of 55 individuals with variants, including the 13 previously reported individuals. An intellectual disability and overgrowth were reported in >80% of individuals with TBRS and were designated major clinical associations.
