Article Synopsis
  • - The study examines how red cell distribution width (RDW) is linked to smoking and coronary heart disease (CHD), aiming to clarify the role of RDW in this relationship.
  • - Analyzing data from over 13,000 adults, results indicated that higher RDW levels were found in smokers and those with CHD, with RDW acting as a mediator between smoking and CHD risk.
  • - The findings suggest that RDW can provide new insights into preventing and managing coronary heart disease, especially considering factors like sex that influence this association.

Background: Some studies have found that high dietary inflammatory index (DII) increases stroke risk, but previous studies have mostly been conducted in the general population, and the exact relationship between DII and stroke in patients with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is not clear.

Methods: This cross-sectional study utilized data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2009-2016) to investigate the association between the DII and stroke. DII was computed according to established methods.

Aims: Macrophages, as an important member of immune system, engulf and digest pathogens in innate immunity and help initiate adaptive immunity. However, macrophages also involve in occurrence and development of many diseases, such as obesity and type 2 diabetes. Here, we aimed to reveal how activated macrophages cause insulin resistance in skeletal muscle in vitro through simulating body environment.

Purpose: The study sought to summarize the evidence of pre-procedural atorvastatin therapy to improve the prognosis of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).

Patients And Methods: We searched PubMed and Embase from inception to July 2018 for randomized controlled trials that compared loading dose atorvastatin pretreatment with no or low dose for the prevention of cardiovascular events. The primary end points were all-cause mortality and myocardial infarction (MI) at 30 days.

Apollon, an unusually large member of the inhibitors of apoptosis protein family, may be important for oncogenesis development. The aim of the present study was to assess the association between esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) and Apollon expression levels, and to highlight the association between Apollon and the occurrence, development and prognosis of ESCC. Apollon expression was detected by immunohistochemical staining and reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction in ESCC tissues, adjacent non‑cancerous tissues and paired normal tissues respectively, in order to analyze the association between Apollon expression and the clinicopathological features of ESCC.
