Blackgram ( L. Hepper) production is hindered by mungbean yellow mosaic virus (MYMV) with disease incidence up to 85% in hot spot locations of Tamil Nadu, India. Field screening of 50 genotypes identified Mash 114 as resistant and CO 5 as susceptible cultivars.

The yellow spot disease caused by the virus species Orthotospovirus iridimaculaflavi (Iris yellow spot virus-IYSV), belonging to the genus Orthotospovirus, the family Tospoviridae, order Bunyavirales and transmitted by Thrips tabaci Lindeman. At present, emerging as a major threat in onion (Allium cepa) in Tamil Nadu, India. The yellow spot disease incidence was found to be 53-73 % in six districts out of eight major onion-growing districts surveyed in Tamil Nadu during 2021-2023.

Groundnut bud necrosis virus (GBNV) belonging to the genus Orthotospovirus is transmitted by its vector Thrips palmi. It is a tri-segmented RNA virus that consists of L, M, and S RNA segments. We analysed the secondary structure features of GBNV proteins through various software and predicted the transmembrane helix, glycosylation, and signal peptidase sites within the GBNV protein sequences (G, G, N, NSm, and NSs).

Bitter gourd ( L.), one of the valued vegetable crops in India, is severely affected by yellow mosaic disease caused by two begomoviruses, tomato leaf curl New Delhi virus (ToLCNDV) and bitter gourd yellow mosaic virus (BgYMV). The symptoms are yellowing, distortion of leaf, puckering, and malformed fruits.

The tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV) belonging to the genus Orthotospovirus, family Tospoviridae, causes severe necrotic disease in field crops and horticultural crops, resulting in considerable yield loss worldwide. The development of protein-based diagnostics is essential to track the virus transmission and prevent its spread in vegetatively propagated crops such as ornamentals. In this study, nucleocapsid (N) gene of TSWV was cloned in pET 28 a (+) expression vector.

A begomovirus isolate collected from bitter gourd plants showing yellowing, puckering and stunting symptoms from Coimbatore district, Tamil Nadu, India was characterized. The full-length genome of the virus isolate was amplified by rolling circle amplification using phi29 DNA polymerase. The virus isolate exhibited 98% identity in the nucleotide sequence of DNA-A component with the Coccinia mosaic Virudhunagar virus (GenBank accession no.

The effect of Groundnut bud necrosis virus (GBNV) infection on the life history traits of its vector, Thrips palmi, and its feeding preference on GBNV-infected plants were studied. A significant difference was observed in the developmental period (first instar to adult) between the GBNV-infected and healthy thrips, wherein the developmental period of GBNV-infected thrips was decreased. However, there was no effect on the other parameters such as preadult mortality, adult longevity, and fecundity.
