Article Synopsis
  • G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) can activate cellular signaling through G proteins or β-arrestins, but the angiotensin II analog [Sarcosine1Ile4Ile8]-angiotensin II (SII) fails to activate G proteins in real physiological settings, instead relying on β-arrestin-2 for signaling.
  • Research shows that SII and other ligands displayed different signaling outcomes depending on the concentration of AT1R, with β-arrestin-biased ligands only showing effective signaling at higher receptor levels.
  • The findings suggest that overexpressing AT1R can distort the perceived signaling bias of GPCR ligands, indicating caution in using overexpression models to study

Aminoglycoside antibiotics require proton motive force (PMF) for bacterial internalization. In non-respiring populations, PMF drops below the level required for drug influx, limiting the utility of aminoglycosides against strict and facultative anaerobes. We recently demonstrated that rhamnolipids (RLs), biosurfactant molecules produced by Pseudomonas aeruginosa, potentiate aminoglycoside activity against Staphylococcus aureus.
