Efficacy of a strategy to prevent neonatal early-onset group B streptococcal (GBS) sepsis.

Background: Existing guidelines recommend different strategies to prevent early-onset neonatal GBS sepsis. In 1997, using our own data on incidence and risk factors, we established a new prevention strategy which includes GBS screening at 36 weeks' gestation and intrapartum antibiotic prophylaxis (IAP) in women with positive or unknown GBS colonization with at least one risk factor. The present study evaluates the efficacy of the new prevention strategy.

Efficacy and safety of high-dose cabergoline in Parkinson's disease.

Objectives: To assess the efficacy and safety of high-dose (up to 20 mg/day) cabergoline in Parkinson's disease (PD) patients with motor fluctuations and/or dyskinesias.

Materials And Methods: Thirty-four PD patients had cabergoline up-titrated and their levodopa (L-dopa) reduced over a maximum of 20 weeks, followed by at least 6 weeks steady cabergoline dosing. Primary endpoint was change in mean hyperkinesia intensity at the final visit (week 26).

Lower and upper bounds on the secret-key rate for quantum key distribution protocols using one-way classical communication.

We investigate a general class of quantum key distribution (QKD) protocols using one-way classical communication. We show that full security can be proven by considering only collective attacks. We derive computable lower and upper bounds on the secret-key rate of those QKD protocols involving only entropies of two-qubit density operators.

[Familial occurrence of a type 2 segmental manifestation of cutaneous leiomyomatosis].

Background: There are several malignant or benign skin diseases which can be explained by the phenomenon of mosaicism or segmental manifestation, e. g. segmental neurofibromatosis 1 or cutaneous leiomyomatosis.

Contact sensitization in patients with leg ulcers and/or leg eczema: comparison between centers.

Patients with leg ulcers and/or eczema of the legs are at risk of contact sensitization. The aim of this retrospective study was to investigate the impact of some aspects of practice of leg ulcer treatment and availability of drugs and dressings in a university-based wound care center. These data were compared with those from the Information Network of Departments of Dermatology (IVDK), where patch test reactions of 3529 patients with leg ulcers and/or eczema of the lower legs were documented.
