Streptococcus oralis cerebral abscess following monkey bite in a 2-month-old infant.

Although cerebral abscesses caused by animal bites have been reported, they are extremely rare in infants and have not been described following monkey bite. A 55-day-old male infant presented with a multi-loculated Streptococcus oralis cerebral abscess following a monkey bite on the scalp. There was a clinical response to antibiotic therapy and repeated surgical aspiration followed by a ventriculoperitoneal shunt.

Chronic hypoxemia in a child: thinking outside the box.

Background: Chronic hypoxemia is generally attributed to primary cardiac or pulmonary entities.

Case Characteristics: A 9-year-old boy presenting with cyanosis, clubbing and hypoxemia, without icterus or hepatosplenomegaly. Cardiovascular and respiratory system examinations were normal.

Breast feeding practices among health care professionals in a tertiary care hospital from South India.

Personal breastfeeding experiences of health care professionals play a major role in influencing their attitudes and expertise regarding counseling and managing breastfeeding issues in patients. This study was done with an objective of studying the current breastfeeding practices among health care professionals (HP) and their spouses and the factors influencing them. All children < 5 years of age, residing in hospital's residential quarters, were included.
