Abdominal Abscesses and Destruction of Inguinal Canal with Mesh Dislocation caused by a Perforated Diverticulitis.

The diverticulitis is a frequent disease of the gastrointestinal tract. It may lead to a variety of severe complications. In some cases, it has to be surgically treated.

Immediate determination of ACPA and rheumatoid factor--a novel point of care test for detection of anti-MCV antibodies and rheumatoid factor using a lateral-flow immunoassay.

Introduction: Autoantibodies against mutated and citrullinated vimentin (MCV) represent a novel diagnostic marker for rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Recently, an increased sensitivity for anti-MCV compared to autoantibodies against cyclic citrullinated peptides (anti-CCP2) was shown in cohorts of patients with early RA and established disease.The aim of this study was to develop and evaluate a point of care test (POCT) for detection of anti-MCV antibodies immediately at the first visit or at the bed side.

[Hepatitis non-A, non-B-associated DNA--demonstration of DNA in proven infectious anti-D-immunoglobulin].

An anti-D-immunoglobulin preparation implicated in a hepatitis non-A,non-B transmission was analyzed for the presence of a DNA, which was originally isolated, cloned and sequenced from feces of a patient with posttransfusion HNANB. The investigation was performed by a DNA polymerase chain reaction using synthetic oligoprimers. Commercially available immunoglobulin preparations served as controls.

[Drug-induced liver damage from a clinical viewpoint].

Biotransformation of xenobiotics is a life saving function of the liver. As a consequence of the tremendous development of new and highly effective drugs this function is frequently overburden. In recent years the number of patients with pharmocotoxic liver damage has become greater than that of patients with viral hepatitis.

[Clinical aspects of acute hepatitis].

The definition of hepatitis is based on morphological criteria. The constellation of biochemical findings informs about form, severity and course. A minimum diagnostic programme allows to clarify typical cases.

[NANB-hepatitis associated marker ("C") in hemophilia].

Using an immune system isolated from a defined NANB epidemy we could find such markers in 29 of 71 patients (41%). The greater number of the antigen speaks in favour of a large pool of healthy carriers. The small number of patients with antibodies may be explained by the low sensibility of our test which detects only antibodies with high titers.

Non A, non B hepatitis: ultrastructural findings in human liver biopsies.

Dense intranuclear particles 30 to 40 nm diameter, could be identified in liver specimens from female patients, who immediately after delivery had been inoculated with sera contaminated with non A, non B hepatitis. The same particles were described previously by KENDREY et al. (1975) in a case of acute hepatitis without clinical or serological evidence for hepatitis A and B.

[The history of hepatology from Galen to Frerichs].

The history of research in hepatology reflects the development of medicine as a whole. Both demonstrate the importance of technical equipment as a prerequisite and the dependence upon the level of the adjoining sciences. The prominent achievements of some scientific schools and of outstanding scientists--concentrated in their publications--can be compared with annual rings of the permanently growing tree of knowledge in hepatology.

[The blood coagulation system in liver diseases with special reference to liver transplantation].

The central function of the liver as place of the formation of the most plasmatic coagulation factors in expressed by coagulation disturbances in severe liver diseases. Apart for intoxications, vitamin-K-deficiency and relatively rare congenital dysproteinoses the synthesis of the coagulation factors is apparently a relatively stable and rapidly recoverable function of the hepatocyte. On the other hand, however, the pathogenetic dominance of the accelerated balance in the sense of a disseminated intravasal coagulation and a secondarily increased fibrinolysis is emphasized for the severe disturbances of haemostasis in hepatopathies.

[Alcohol and the liver].

Alcohol is the most significant liver poison. Its degradation takes above all place by the alcohol dehydrogenase and the microsomal alcohol-oxidizing system. In the first step of degradation acetaldehyde develops which in enrichment evokes immediately toxic defects on the mitochondrias of the cells of the liver parenchyma and thus introduces a vicious circle.

[Epidemiology, clinical aspects, immunology and morphology of non-A, non-B hepatitis].

Examinations were carried out in a population group of 106 potentially contaminated females and in five donors, affected one year earlier within the frames of a restricted epidemic, caused by NANB-hepatitis virus. It was possible to differentiate a specific antibody-antigen system, identical to that of sirahi et al. The antigen was confirmed in 20 per cent of the females, 21 per cent of the contaminated did not get ill.

[Development of hepatology in the GDR].

Numerous hepatological groups were formed in close correlation with the development of our public health care system, research medical societies and international level of medical science at the higher university institutes and the regional clinics in our country. They are very active as regards medical investigations and development of science, organization of subspecialized medical attendance of patients with diseases of the liver and gall bladder as well as qualification and improving of qualification. Their work corresponds to the international level, in certain fields high achievements being realized.

[Risk and ethical problems in endoscopy].

The explosive growth of natural-scientific knowledge and its utilization in medicine has enlarged the diagnostic and therapeutic possibilities. A change of the physician's work is connected with the laboratory and apparative-technical medicine. The simple methods of the anamnestic, at the same time psychoanalytic talk and the immediate examination of the patient are no more used according to their value.

[Perspective of tuberculosis control--role of preventive chemotherapy (author's transl)].

After a short review of measures for control and eradication of infectious diseases in general and especially of tuberculosis, the indications of chemoprophylaxis and preventive chemotherapy of tuberculosis are discussed. Using results of a double-blind controlled trial on preventive chemotherapy in a high risk group (persons with fibrotic lung lesions), cost, benefit and side effects of preventive chemotherapy are analysed. Preventive chemotherapy in high risk persons is an effective measure in advanced stage of tuberculosis control.

[Demonstration of hepatitis A virus in the feces].

On the basis of own examinations methodology and results of the demonstration of the virus A in the stools and of the proof of antibodies in the serum are described. The parameters of the virus-A-hepatitis which are important for practice are further the basis for diagnosis, therapy and surrounding prophylaxis in routine work. They were compiled in a table.
