Impact of global warming on weight in patients with heart failure during the 2019 heatwave in France.

Heatwaves affect human health and should be more and more frequent because of global warming and could lead to increase mortality in general population, especially regarding cardiovascular mortality. During the summer 2019, Europe experienced a strong episode of heatwave. Telemonitoring of patients with heart failure (HF) provide an elegant tool to monitor closely the weights, and we assumed to be able to assess our hypothesis through a nationwide telemonitoring system.

Benefits of Interventional Telemonitoring on Survival and Unplanned Hospitalization in Patients With Chronic Heart Failure.

Aims: To assess the effect of interventional specialized telemonitoring (ITM) compared to standard telemonitoring (STM) and standard of care (SC) on preventing all causes of death, cardiovascular mortality and unplanned hospitalization in heart failure (HF) patients.

Methods: We compared outcomes in three groups of HF patients followed by different modalities: SC, STM and ITM. The telemonitoring was performed by the specialized HF-cardiology staff at Toulouse University Hospital.

Effects of a mixed exercise program on cancer related-fatigue and health-related quality of life in oncogeriatric patients: A feasibility study.

Objectives: Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) is the most debilitating side effect occurring with cancer treatment accumulation. Although combining aerobic and resistance exercise is an effective strategy to counteract this side effect, there is a paucity of studies performed with older patients even if this is the most affected population. Hence, the objective was to assess the feasibility and the impact of a twelve-week exercise program performed during cancer treatment on CRF, quality of life, and physical capacity in older adults diagnosed with early-stage cancer.

Examining sex differences in DSM-IV-TR narcissistic personality disorder symptom expression using Item Response Theory (IRT).

The limited published literature on the subject suggests that there may be differences in how females and males experience narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) symptoms. The aim of this study was to use methods based on item response theory to examine whether, when equating for levels of NPD symptom severity, there are sex differences in the likelihood of reporting DSM-IV-TR NPD symptoms. We conducted these analyses using a large, nationally representative sample from the USA (n=34,653), the second wave of the National Epidemiologic Survey on Alcohol and Related Conditions (NESARC).

Structural changes in amber due to uranium mineralization.

The presence of uranium, with a bulk mass fraction of about 1.5 wt% and radiolytic alterations are a feature of Cenomanian amber from Křižany, at the northeastern edge of the North Bohemian Cretaceous uranium ore district. Pores and microcracks in the amber were filled with a mineral admixture, mainly in the form of Zr-Y-REE enriched uraninite.

First evidence and molecular characterization of Babesia vogeli in naturally infected dogs and Rhipicephalus sanguineus ticks in southern France.

Babesiosis is an emerging tick-borne disease of animals and humans caused by intraerythrocytic protozoa of the genera Babesia and Theileria. In France canine babesiosis has a high prevalence with Babesia canis thought to be the main aetiological agent of the disease. Babesia vogeli has already been reported to occur in Europe and in other countries around the Mediterranean Sea.

Attrition-free pyrolysis to produce bio-oil and char.

Experiments are performed on a laboratory scale setup where beech wood chips are heated by gas convection and walls radiation. This study shows that it is possible to obtain high bio-oil and char yields with relatively low external heat transfer coefficients. The main advantage of this convection/radiation heat transfer mode compared to solid-solid collisions, applied in fluidized bed or twin screw reactors, is the reduction of solid attrition (char and sand).

Electron beam-melted, free-form-fabricated titanium alloy implants: Material surface characterization and early bone response in rabbits.

Titanium-6aluminum-4vanadium implants (Ti6Al4V) were prepared by free-form-fabrication (FFF) and were used either as produced or after machining and compared with wrought machined Ti6Al4V. Auger electron spectroscopy (AES), depth profiles, and interferometry were used to analyze the surface properties. The tissue response after 6-weeks in rabbit femur and tibia was evaluated using light microscopy and histomorphometry.

Identification of the origin of transfer (oriT) and a new gene required for mobilization of the SXT/R391 family of integrating conjugative elements.

Integrating conjugative elements (ICEs) are self-transmissible, mobile elements that are widespread among bacteria. Following their excision from the chromosome, ICEs transfer by conjugation, a process initiated by a single-stranded DNA break at a specific locus called the origin of transfer (oriT). The SXT/R391 family of ICEs includes SXT(MO10), R391, and more than 25 related ICEs found in gammaproteobacteria.

[Visceral lesions in mammals and birds exposed to agents of human cercarial dermatitis].

Over the past few years, the cercarial dermatitis has become a new problem of public health, obviously linked to the prolonged stay of migrant birds on our territory. This is a skin affection characterized by pruriginous and papulous eruptions caused by penetration of avian bilharzian larvae under the skin. These larvae are emitted by molluscs, mostly limneids.

Giant cavernous hemangioma of the liver: atypical CT and MR findings.

The CT and MR appearance of giant cavernous hemangiomas can be confusing, and some atypical radiographic findings have been described. We report the CT and MR features of a giant cavernous hemangioma of the liver with atypical presentation. CT showed a large hypodense geographical lesion involving the majority of the liver and multiple scattered peripheral lesions.

Amyloidoma of the skull: plain radiographs, CT and MRI.

Amyloidomas involving bone are rare. The 67-year-old man reported here had a large amyloidoma of the left frontal, parietal, sphenoid (greater wing) and temporal bones causing neural compression. Plain radiographs CT and MRI are shown.

Duodenal gallstone ileus producing Boerhaave's syndrome.

A case of duodenal obstruction by biliary calculus associated with esophageal rupture is described. CT demonstrated air in the gallbladder, an impacted gallstone in the duodenum, pneumomediastinum, and hydropneumothorax. The present report describes the CT findings of these two rare conditions in the same patient.

Treatment of hemobilia with selective hepatic artery embolization.

Purpose: To evaluate retrospectively the results of selective transcatheter embolization in the treatment of hemobilia.

Patients And Methods: Twelve patients with hemobilia (mean age, 43 years) underwent embolotherapy. Causes of hepatic vascular injury were iatrogenic trauma, blunt external trauma, septic emboli, and lupus vasculitis.

Unilateral pulmonary artery agenesis presenting with hemoptysis: treatment by embolization of systemic collaterals.

Systemic-to-pulmonary collateral vessels and shunts develop in patients with isolated unilateral absence of a pulmonary artery (IUAPA). Two cases of IUAPA (right and left) with hemoptysis in adult life are presented. Selective embolization of these systemic vessels controlled hemoptysis successfully.
