This cross-sectional study investigated the association between experiences of discrimination and oral health self-perception among a probabilistic cluster sample of Brazilian adults who participated in the 2013 National Health Survey. Oral health self-perception was categorized into three groups (very good + good; fair; poor + very poor). Reported experiences of discrimination included attributions based on the respondent's race/skin color, social class, income, occupation, illness, sexual orientation, religion, sex, and age.

Dental services utilization may increase access to preventive actions and conservative treatment, reducing the prevalence of tooth loss. This study evaluated the income- and education-based inequalities in edentulism according to the utilization of dental services among adults and older adults in Brazil.

Whereas epidemiologists track the progress of the disease using daily indicators to understand the pandemic better, economic activity indicators are usually available at a lower frequency and with considerable time lags. We propose and implement a timely trade-based regional economic activity indicator (EAI) that uses high-frequency traffic data to monitor daily sectoral economic activity in different sectors for the Brazilian State of São Paulo, a highly impacted region, overcoming the challenge of real-time assessment of the economy amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

Methods: Standardized 4×4mm cavities were cut into 35 bovine enamel blocks, which were randomly divided into seven groups (n=5) and restored with the following experimental composites and commercial materials: (G12.5) - 5% dimethylaminododecyl methacrylate (DMADDM) with a 12-carbon alkyl chain (G12.
Background And Objectives: This work aims to present the expert system EpAssistant, a platform algorithm designed to accurately and automatically identify the EPLETS specificities of anti-HLA (Human Leukocyte Antigen) antibodies in the sera of transplantation candidates.
Materials And Methods: RESULTS: As preliminary results, we present the development and establishment of the EpAssistant platform. EpAssistant analyses can be performed for Class I (-A, B and C) and Class II (-DR, -DQ and -DP) HLA molecules.
Like many other species of trees native to the Brazilian Mata Atlântica (Atlantic Forest), the Myrtaceae, such as the Red Araza (Psidium cattleianum Sabine), are widely cited as arbuscular mycorrhizal formers. Nevertheless, recent studies show evidence that Myrtaceae from different tropical, subtropical and neotropical ecosystems can also prompt the formation of ectomycorrhizae, indicating that this species' ectomycorrhizal status should be further explored. Because of this, this research effort studied the in vitro interaction between the Red Araza and two ectomycorrhizal fungi isolates, belonging to the Pisolithus microcarpus (D17) and Scleroderma citrinum (UFSC-Sc133) species.

Methods: We assessed the immunohistochemical expression of E-cadherin in squamous intraepithelial lesions (SIL - 52 cases), squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the uterine cervix (23 cases) and also in eight cases of cervicitis.
Results: The results show very different E-cadherin membrane expression levels when cervicitis (88%), SILs (73%) and SCC (17%) were compared.
Metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) and -14 (MMP-14) and the tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases type 2 (TIMP-2) participate in epithelial-mesenchymal transition and tumor progression in many cancers. However, the correlation between these enzymes in gastric cancer and the metastatic potential to their respective lymph node needs to be determined. Here, we evaluated the expression of these enzymes in gastric carcinoma and lymph node metastases and their possible involvement in tumor progression.

A method that analyzes the decay kinetics after long-pulse excitation is used to determine the laser characteristics. This method permits to measure the fractional contribution of spontaneous and stimulated emission as well as upconversion as a function of the pump intensity.

To better understand the possible toxic effects of these toxins, Crassostrea gigas hemocytes were exposed to brevetoxin (PbTx-2). Hemocyte viability, monitored through the neutral red retention and MTT reduction assays, and apoptosis (Hoechst staining) remained unchanged during 12 h of exposure to PbTx-2 in concentrations up to 1000 µg/L.
