Purpose: To verify the accuracy of respiratory muscle strength in identifying systolic dysfunction in patients with Chagas cardiomyopathy (ChC), and to validate optimal cutoff points based on respiratory muscle strength.

Methods: First, 72 patients with ChC were enrolled and underwent echocardiography and assessment of respiratory muscle strength by manovacuometry. Inspiratory and expiratory muscle strength was defined by maximal inspiratory pressure (MIP) and maximal expiratory pressure (MEP), respectively.

Objective: To verify the differences in ankle range of motion (ROM), muscle strength of dorsi and plantar flexors, and gait speed among healthy subjects, and patients with chronic venous disorders (CVD) with and without venous leg ulcer.

Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis (http://osf.io/b7n3k) were conducted following a search of MEDLINE, Web of Science, CINAHL, LILACS, Scopus, and EMBASE databases.

Article Synopsis
  • This study explored the effects of whole-body vibration (WBV) on neuromuscular control and handgrip strength in women with rheumatoid arthritis (RA).
  • Twenty-one women participated in three different five-minute conditions: control (resting), sham (vibration platform off), and WBV (vibration platform on).
  • Results indicated that WBV significantly reduced the neural ratio, suggesting improved neuromuscular efficiency during handgrip exercises in participants with stable RA.

Introduction: The minute ventilation-carbon dioxide production relationship (VE/VCO2 slope) is among the main prognostic factors of Chagas cardiomyopathy whose determinants remain unknown.

Methods: Seventy-eight patients with Chagas cardiomyopathy were evaluated using clinical assessment, cardiopulmonary exercise test, echocardiography, and International Physical Activity Questionnaire.

Results: Age, functional class, International Physical Activity Questionnaire score, and dilated cardiomyopathy with systolic dysfunction were independent determinants of VE/VCO2 slope, and these variables explained 63% of its variance.

Introduction: Single-leg squat (SLS) is a test commonly used to assess lower limb function in rehabilitation. Increased hip adduction and internal rotation (IR) is associated with dynamic knee valgus, which is related to hip and knee overload. Proximal and distal factors, such as hip passive stiffness, poor hip muscle strength and excessive foot misalignment may influence hip movement.

Purpose: To verify the value of the Incremental Shuttle Walk Test (ISWT) distance to identify patients with Chagas cardiomyopathy (ChC) at risk of adverse cardiovascular events.

Methods: Fifty-two patients with ChC (51 ± 6 years) were evaluated by ISWT, echocardiography, Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing, and Human Activity Profile (HAP) Questionnaire. Patients were prospectively followed for 44 ± 10 months.

Background: A better understanding about the relationship between trunk and hip muscles strength and core stability may improve evaluation and interventions proposed to improve core stability.

Objectives: To investigate if trunk and hip muscles strength predict pelvic posterior rotation during the bridge test with unilateral knee extension.

Methods: This is a cross-sectional study.
