Introduction: During esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD), general anesthesia (GA) may be provided using a laryngeal mask airway (LMA) with the endoscope inserted behind the cuff of the LMA into the esophagus. Passage of the endoscope may increase the intracuff of the LMA. We evaluated a newly designed LMA (LMA Gastro™ Airway) which has an internal channel exiting from its distal end to facilitate EGD.

Variations in the electrolyte and buffer concentrations between these solutions may result in differential changes in electrolyte and acid-base status during fluid resuscitation. This study evaluates these changes during posterior spinal fusion in adolescents.

Coordination of specialties, consideration for parental time burdens, and travel expenses as well as limiting multiple anesthetic exposures to the children are pertinent factors to consider when advocating the combination of surgical procedures.
Methods: The electronic medical record at Nationwide Children's Hospital was retrospectively queried to obtain information on patients having a single anesthetic encounter for 2 or more procedures involving 2 or more services over 1 year (July 2015-June 2016).
Mechanical valve thrombosis is a severe complication of valve replacement associated with significant patient morbidity and mortality. The main factors that predispose patients to thrombus formation include endothelial injury or dysfunction, hypercoagulability, and hemodynamic changes. Other contributing factors include level of anticoagulation, tricuspid valve replacement, bacteremia, and certain patient comorbidities.
