Introduction: Interventions to treat speech-language difficulties in primary progressive aphasia (PPA) often use word accuracy as a highly comparable outcome. However, there are more constructs of importance to people with PPA that have received less attention.

Methods: Following Core Outcome Set Standards for Development Recommendations (COSSTAD), this study comprised: Stage 1 - systematic review to identify measures; Stage 2 - consensus groups to identify important outcome constructs for people with PPA (n = 82) and care partners (n = 91); Stage 3 - e-Delphi consensus with 57 researchers.

We are constantly bombarded by sensory information and constantly making decisions on how to act. In order to optimally adapt behavior, we must judge which sequences of sensory inputs and actions lead to successful outcomes in specific circumstances. Neuronal circuits of the basal ganglia have been strongly implicated in action selection, as well as the learning and execution of goal-directed behaviors, with accumulating evidence supporting the hypothesis that midbrain dopamine neurons might encode a reward signal useful for learning.

Background: In October 2021, French acute care societies jointly published cognitive aids to standardise practices and limit cognitive biases to ensure greater safety in management of severe trauma patients. The aim of the study was to evaluate the impact of a checklist on emergency physicians' adherence to the recommendations.

Methods: This prospective before-and-after study study took place in a French mobile emergency and resuscitation service.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the increasing trend of reconsultations in emergency departments, focusing on the reasons behind these visits and factors related to healthcare-associated adverse events.
  • It involved a retrospective analysis of reconsultations within a week at two French hospitals, examining how various factors, like weekend visits and radiology tests, influenced patient outcomes.
  • The findings highlight that while weekend visits increase risk, timely biological tests and specialist opinions serve as protective measures, suggesting the need for improved access to these services in emergency care.

Article Synopsis
  • * Conducted over a year, the research involved 1501 patients without known chronic liver disease; 33.6% of these showed positive signs for fibrosis, leading to further testing and specialist referrals.
  • * The findings suggest that using these simple ultrasound indicators can effectively identify hepatic fibrosis in the general population, resulting in appropriate referrals for further evaluation and treatment.

Introduction: Military firefighters are the first responders in the event of a chemical, biological, radiation, and nuclear (CBRN) event in the Marseille area. They receive initial training to intervene safely in a CBRN context. We wanted to evaluate the use of CBRN personal protective equipment (PPE) at a distance from this training.

Introduction: In current French military operations, it is not uncommon for military nurses (MNs) alone to be required to support soldiers in isolated areas. At a time when advanced practice nurses in the civilian sector develop extended skills, we asked MNs about their willingness to be trained in pointof- care ultrasound (POCUS).

Methods: We conducted a webbased survey from 1 November 2018 to 1 December 2018, including all MNs deployed in Operation Barkhane.

This article reports for the first time the synthesis of an LDH using only manganese as the divalent and trivalent metallic ion. Analysis of the pH, redox potential, and chemical composition during the oxidation of a manganese basic salt using persulfate indicates the oxidation of 1/3 of the initial Mn ions, in agreement with the paramagnetic structure and XPS analysis. Infrared, Raman spectra and thermogravimetric analysis results were similar to the ones obtained with Fe-LDH also known as green rust.

Article Synopsis
  • Fast radio bursts (FRBs) are brief radio wave signals from space, occurring over milliseconds, and can be seen from billions of light-years away.
  • Researchers detected a specific FRB, named 20191221A, which has a periodic separation of 216.8 milliseconds between its components, indicating a potential link to neutron stars.
  • The unique characteristics of this burst, including its longer duration and multiple components, suggest that the emission likely originates from within the magnetosphere of a neutron star rather than from more distant regions.

Rodents depend on olfaction and touch to meet many of their fundamental needs. However, the impact of simultaneous olfactory and tactile inputs on sensory representations in the cortex remains elusive. To study these interactions, we recorded large populations of barrel cortex neurons using 2-photon calcium imaging in head-fixed mice during olfactory and tactile stimulation.

Unlabelled: The Detection Test for Language Impairments in Adults and the Aged (DTLA) is a quick, sensitive, and standardized screening test designed to assess language disorders in adults and elderly people. The test was specifically developed to detect linguistic impairment associated with major neurocognitive disorders. In 2017, we established normative data on 545 healthy individuals between 50 and 80 years old from four French-speaking countries: Belgium, Canada (Quebec), France, and Switzerland.

Introduction: The S100ß protein (PS100ß) is a biomarker, which has demonstrated its importance in diagnoses ruling out intracranial hemorrhages in people with light head traumas This study aims to evaluate if the PS100ß presents an interest in the diagnostic strategy for subarachnoid hemorrhages (SAH).

Methods: Prospective non-randomized multicentric study in three hospitals from October 2018 to January 2020. Every patient who came into the emergency department for an intense non-traumatic headache lasting less than 3 h received an PS100ß assay and a non-injected head computed tomography (CT) scan.

Cadmium toxicity occurs where there is absorption and accumulation of cadmium ions (Cd) in tissues beyond tolerable levels. Significant differences in the release of Cd from cadmium compounds in biological fluids, like gastric fluid, may indicate differences in bioavailability and absorption. This means that direct read-across from high solubility cadmium compounds to lower solubility compounds may not accurately reflect potential hazards.
