is naturally found in the Atlantic Forest regions of Brazil. Despite the pharmacological potential of plants from the genus, phytochemical studies on this species have not been reported in literature. A new triterpene, 28-hydroxyfriedelane-3,15-dione (), and seven known compounds (friedelan-3-one (), friedelan-3β-ol (), friedelane-3,15-dione (), 15α-hydroxyfriedelan-3-one (), 28-hydroxyfriedelan-3-one (), 30-hydroxyfriedelan-3-one (), and 29-hydroxyfriedelan-3-one ()) were obtained from the hexane extract of leaves.

Introduction: Urethral stricture is a common, albeit complex, condition that predominantly affects men. The aim of this study was to translate, culturally adapt, and validate the Patient-Reported Outcome Measure questionnaire for patients undergoing urethroplasty (USS-PROM) into Brazilian Portuguese using validated psychometric criteria.

Materials And Methods: The process involved translating and culturally adapting the original USS-PROM into Brazilian Portuguese (USS-PROMbr), synthesizing, back-translating, cross-culturally adapting, and analyzing the pre-final version with experts from our committee.

Our aim was to evaluate musculoskeletal discomfort and the lifestyle of military police officers of administrative and tactical force departments. Military police officers were distributed into two groups: administrative (Adm, = 15) and tactical force (TF, = 16) departments. Their lifestyle was assessed using the Fantastic Lifestyle questionnaire.

Changes in land use have been occurring in a continuous and disorderly way in recent decades due to rapid population growth and the growing demand for food. These constant changes result in a series of harmful effects to the environment, especially to water resources, significantly changing their availability and quality. This study aims to evaluate the degradation potential of watersheds through an evaluation of some environmental indicators using arithmetic means to construct an index called in this research "index of potential environmental degradation" (IPED).

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of the repeated administration of tramadol subcutaneously on postoperative analgesia, liver, kidneys, and oxidative status in the postoperative period of cats undergoing ovariohysterectomy. Thirty-seven cats were randomly assigned to 5 groups, according to the postoperative analgesic treatment: NaCl 0.9%, GC; tramadol at 2 mg/kg, T2B (q12h) and T2T (q8h); or 4 mg/kg, T4B (q12h) and T4T (q8h).

Article Synopsis
  • The study assessed the impact of a standardized laparoscopic simulation training program on pyeloplasty outcomes during and after its implementation amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • A total of 151 patients treated at a Brazilian hospital were analyzed, showing notable improvements in conversion rates to open surgery, surgical time, and hospital stay after the training.
  • Even with a significant drop in surgical volume during the pandemic, the positive results from the simulation training were consistently maintained, indicating its effectiveness in enhancing surgical performance.

Article Synopsis
  • A neural network model was developed to predict the evolution of cosmological -body simulations, suggesting it effectively approximates the Green's function relating initial conditions to outcomes in complex, nonlinear scenarios.
  • The model was tested against various simpler configurations, demonstrating good generalization and the ability to learn physical principles from random Gaussian training data, which highlighted its strengths and weaknesses.
  • However, the model struggled with initial conditions that it wasn't trained on, specifically those involving transverse modes, and it achieved high accuracy when compared to traditional simulation methods for density and momentum power spectra, outperforming a fast simulation method called COLA.

Background: Maternal periodontal disease (PED) and apical periodontitis (AP) are associated insulin resistance (IR), increased tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) levels, and alterations in insulin signaling (IS) in the gastrocnemius muscle (GM) of adult offspring. TNF-α stimulates I kappa B kinase (IKK) and c-Jun N-terminal protein kinase (JNK), resulting in IS attenuation. However, studies that investigated the maternal true endodontic-periodontal lesion (EPL) in offspring are scarce, and in this case, the impact could be even higher.

The use of coconut fiber as a copper adsorbent in cachaça was optimised, and changes in the chemical quality of the beverage were observed by analytical techniques. The influence of the adsorbent mass and copper concentration parameters was investigated using the Central Composite Design, and the optimum condition was obtained through the use of Response Surface Methodology. The equilibrium of the adsorption reaction was obtained within 120 min.

  • Caeski is an assistive technology designed for individuals with deafblindness, featuring 12 vibrating keys that connect to a smartphone app for enhanced communication in various contexts.
  • Testing involved eleven participants with deafblindness and interpreters over a ten-day period, indicating most could effectively use the device, though improvements in vibration feedback and training time were identified as necessary.
  • The study concluded that Caeski is a viable communication tool with potential applications in education and social interactions, necessitating further research on training duration and its integration with other assistive technologies.

Introduction: Cardiac involvement seems to impact prognosis of COVID-19, being more frequent in critically ill patients. We aimed to assess the prognostic value of right ventricular (RV) and left ventricular (LV) dysfunction, evaluated by bedside echocardiography (echo), in patients hospitalized with COVID-19.

Methods: Patients admitted in 2 reference hospitals in Brazil from Jul to Sept/2020 with confirmed COVID-19 and moderate/severe presentations underwent clinical and laboratory evaluation, and focused bedside echo (GE Vivid-IQ), at the earliest convenience, with remote interpretation.

Agricultural waste products can be used as biosorbents for bioremediation once they are low-cost and high-efficient in pollutants removal. Thus, waste products from mushroom farming such as cutting and substrate of (popularly known as shiitake) and (also known as champignon) were evaluated as biosorbents for metallic contaminants copper (Cu) and lead (Pb). Shiitake and champignon stalks, and shiitake substrate (medium in which shiitake was cultivated) were dried, grounded, characterized and experimented to remove Cu and Pb from contaminated water.

  • Environmental noise in hospitals is linked to health problems for patients and healthcare professionals, highlighting the need for targeted research in this area.
  • A systematic review of studies from 2015 to 2020 was conducted, focusing on environmental noise measurements in hospital settings across various regions, primarily in Europe, the Americas, and Asia.
  • Daytime noise levels in hospitals ranged from 37 to 88.6 dB (A), with nighttime levels between 38.7 to 68.8 dB (A), indicating a pressing need for guidelines to mitigate noise and improve patient outcomes.

  • The pharmaceutical industry's advancements in molecular biology have transformed dermatology treatments, but rising drug costs hinder access in public health policies.
  • The creation of the Specialized Pharmaceutical Assistance Component aims to make expensive drugs available, yet legal actions for medication still place a significant financial burden on state budgets.
  • A study in São Paulo shows low legal demand for dermatological drugs, with psoriasis being the most common condition, suggesting the need for better access methods and cost-effective planning for new therapies.

Article Synopsis
  • The paper explores how the Brazilian air transport network has geographically concentrated over time, focusing on what influences this concentration and any disconnects from socioeconomic patterns.
  • It utilizes an econometric analysis with various indices (like Gini and Herfindahl-Hirschman) to understand these dynamics, both accounting for and normalizing economic and demographic factors.
  • The findings indicate a strong correlation between the air network's spatial dynamics and Brazil's economy and population, but suggest that deregulation has introduced some imbalances that could affect airline planning and regulation.
