Article Synopsis
  • Horizontal well hydraulic fracturing technology has greatly improved shale reservoir productivity but lacks understanding of fracture expansion and fluid movement in real-world conditions.
  • A dynamic geomechanical (DG) model is developed to simulate hydraulic fracturing operations using field-mimicking procedures and calibrated to field data for better accuracy.
  • The DG model allows for detailed analysis of reservoir dynamics, effectively mapping fluid injection effects, fracture propagation, and permeability changes following fracturing operations.

Article Synopsis
  • This research focuses on understanding the dynamics of pressure in underground porous formations and develops a model for oil-gas flow in a double-porosity medium.
  • It introduces a governing equation using the H function and employs mathematical techniques to analyze the impact of parameters on pressure dynamics through log-log curve plots.
  • The model was validated with real-world data from a condensate gas well, highlighting the effects of oil saturation and permeability-stress sensitivity on pressure changes in fractured formations.

Steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) is an efficient thermal recovery technique for oil sands and extra heavy oil exploitation. The development of steam chamber goes through multi-stage physical processes for SAGD production in a heavy oil reservoir with an interlayer. In this study, considering the situation that an interlayer is located directly above a pair of horizontal wells, we analyzed the whole process of steam chamber development.
