Aflatoxins harm the reproductive system and gamete development in animals. Primordial germ cells (PGCs) in chickens, as ancestral cells of gametes, are essential for genetic transmission, yet the impact and mechanisms of aflatoxins on them remain elusive. This study systematically investigated the effects of aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) on chicken PGCs and their potential mechanisms using an in vitro culture model.

Blast lung injury (BLI) is a major cause of death in blast injuries, largely due to pulmonary edema. Effective clearance of alveolar fluid is critical for resolving pulmonary edema, with the epithelial sodium channel (ENaC) playing a key role in this process. Resveratrol (RES), a natural compound with known antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, has shown promise in treating respiratory diseases.

The conductivity of Zn-MOF-on-Co-MOF synthesized by one-pot method is improved by searching for the optimum carbonization temperature, which overcomes the limitation of traditional MOF. In order to further enhance electron transfer, the mesoporous PtPdCo trimetal was introduced, which provided considerable load capacity for methylene blue (MB) and reverse complementary DNA (sDNA), and also showed excellent catalytic activity for MB. In this study, the conductivity of aptasensor was improved by modifying carbonized MOF as the base material.

Background: Dysbiosis of gut microbiota (GM) is intricately linked with cognitive impairment and the incidence of traumatic brain injury (TBI) in both animal models and human subjects. However, there is limited understanding of the impact and mechanisms of fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) on brain and gut barrier function in the treatment of TBI induced by gas explosion (GE).

Methods: We have employed FMT technology to establish models of gut microbiota dysbiosis in male rats, and subsequently conducted non-targeted metabolomics and microbiota diversity analysis to explore the bacteria with potential functional roles.

Aflatoxin B (AFB) is highly toxic and difficult to prevent. It is mainly produced by fungi and exists in plants and animals and is classified by the World Health Organization as a class I carcinogen, posing a serious threat to human and animal health. Therefore, it is important to establish an efficient, sensitive, and on-site detection method for AFB to protect human health.

Plant-microorganism combined bioremediation is a highly efficient and environmentally sustainable method for the remediation of contaminated soils. Despite its potential, the synergistic effects of wetland plants and anaerobic microbial consortium on the removal of chlorinated hydrocarbons (CAHs) from soil remain inadequately understood. In this study, an anaerobic bacterial consortium, capable of completely dechlorinating trichloroethylene (TCE), was enriched and screened from long-term CAH-contaminated soil.

Acute lung injury (ALI), a multifactorial pathological condition, manifests through heightened inflammatory responses, compromised lung epithelial-endothelial barrier function, and oxidative stress, potentially culminating in respiratory failure and mortality. This study explores the intricate interplay between two crucial cellular mechanisms-extracellular vesicles (EVs) and autophagy-in the context of ALI pathogenesis and potential therapeutic interventions.EVs, bioactive membrane-bound structures secreted by cells, serve as versatile carriers of molecular cargo, facilitating intercellular communication and significantly influencing disease progression.

An aptasensor with dual-outputs was developed for malathion detection. Fe-MOF was synthesized to design favorable signal probes for catalytic amplification. Owing to the excellent peroxidase-like activity of Fe-MOF, the redox reaction was catalyzed to produce the dual-outputs of colorimetric and electrochemical.

Article Synopsis
  • - Traumatic brain injury (TBI) and Alzheimer's disease have similar features, such as neuronal loss and cognitive deficits, and TBI can worsen Alzheimer's-like symptoms, potentially leading to the disease's development.
  • - Nanocarriers are being explored to deliver small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) across the blood-brain barrier, allowing for targeted silencing of genes related to TBI and Alzheimer's without the non-specific effects of traditional drugs.
  • - While siRNA gene silencing shows great promise in halting disease progression by targeting gene expression, challenges remain in effectively delivering siRNAs to the brain, but nanoparticles are emerging as a promising solution for this drug delivery issue.

Lead ions (Pb) are a widely distributed and highly toxic heavy metal pollutant, which seriously threatens the environment, economy and human safety. Here, a label-free ratiometric fluorescent biosensor was constructed for Pb detection using DNAzyme-driven target cycling and exonuclease III (Exo III)-mediated DNA cycling as a dual signal amplification strategy. The SYBR Green I (SGI) and -methyl mesoporphyrin IX (NMM) used in this study are characterized by low cost, storage resistance, and short preparation time compared with conventional signaling probes labeled with fluorescent groups.

While KRAS mutation is the leading cause of low survival rates in lung cancer bone metastasis patients, effective treatments are still lacking. Here, we identified homeobox C10 (HOXC10) as a lynchpin in pan-KRAS-mutant lung cancer bone metastasis. Through RNA-seq approach and patient tissue studies, we demonstrated that HOXC10 expression was dramatically increased.
