Evolution of injury burden in Qatari professional football - 8 season data from the Aspetar Injury and Illness Surveillance Programme.

Prospectively collected injury surveillance data are essential for designing and implementing injury prevention programmes. We investigated the incidence, characteristics and patterns of professional football injuries in Qatar, providing details on the most observed injuries' burden. We prospectively recorded individual time-loss injuries and training/match exposure from 17 professional football teams in Qatar during 8 seasons (2014/15 to 2021/22).

Abnormal expression of oxylipins and related synthesizing/signaling pathways in inflammatory bowel diseases.

We investigated selected oxylipins and related synthesizing/signaling pathways in 28 patients with Crohn's disease (CD), 19 patients with ulcerative colitis (UC), and 39 controls. Plasma and mucosal PUFA/oxylipin profiles were analyzed by LC-MS/MS. mRNA expression of 5, 12 and 15-lipooxygenases, FPR2/ALXR, FFAR4/GPR120, annexin A1, and interleukin-10 were analyzed by qRT-PCR.

Mechanisms of ACL injuries in men's football: A systematic video analysis over six seasons in the Qatari professional league.

To assess the mechanisms of ACL injury in male professional football players in Qatar across multiple seasons using systematic video analysis. 15 ACL injuries occurred in competition among the professional football teams that participated in an injury Surveillance Programme during 6 seasons (2013/2014 to 2018/2019). High-definition broadcast videos of these injuries were analyzed (49 views; 34 slow motion) by five analysts who independently described the injury mechanisms (situation, behavior, biomechanical characteristics) using validated observational tools.

Double-negative T cells are increased in HIV-infected patients under antiretroviral therapy.

Double-negative T (DNT) cells are a T-cell subset with a CD4-CD8- phenotype. They represent 1% to 5% of circulating lymphocytes, but an increase in this proportion can be found during lymphoproliferative and autoimmune diseases. This increase has also been reported in persons with HIV (PWH).

The injury mechanism correlation between MRI and video-analysis in professional football players with an acute ACL knee injury reveals consistent bone bruise patterns.

Purpose: To analyze the MRI features, in particular bone bruises pattern, of Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injured footballers, and to correlate them with the characteristics of injury mechanism and situation obtained from direct video footage.

Methods: Nineteen professional football (soccer) players that sustained ACL injury while playing during an official match of First League Championship were included in the study. The video of injury was obtained from the Television broadcast.

RORC overexpression as a sign of Th17 lymphocytes accumulation in multiple myeloma bone marrow.

The role of the bone marrow microenvironment in supporting the proliferation and survival of the abnormal plasma cells in multiple myeloma (MM) is well established. Such microenvironment is rich of cytokines like IL-6, TGF-β, IL-1 and IL-23 which are known to promote the differentiation of Th17 lymphocytes, a T helper subpopulation. Th17 cells secrete IL-17, a cytokine involved in the pathophysiology of several auto-immune diseases.

An endogenous aryl hydrocarbon receptor ligand enhances de novo generation of regulatory T cells in humans.

The aromatic hydrocarbons receptor (AhR) is a ligand-dependent transcription factor that plays a role in mediating toxicity to xenobiotics. Its key role in immune regulation has been recently demonstrated. Recent data pointed to the efficacy of ITE (2-(1'H-indole-3'-carbonyl)-thiazole-4-carboxylic acid methyl ester), a nontoxic ligand of AhR, in experimental models of inflammatory diseases.

ACL injury incidence, severity and patterns in professional male soccer players in a Middle Eastern league.

Aim: To ascertain ACL injury incidence, severity (injury burden) and patterns (contact/non-contact and reinjuries) in a professional male football league in the Middle East over five consecutive seasons.

Methods: Prospective epidemiological study reporting ACL injuries in professional male soccer players in the Qatar Stars League, with complete matches/training exposure over five seasons (2013-2014 to 2017-2018), corresponding to 2243 player seasons and 729 team months.

Results: 37 complete ACL ruptures occurred in 37 players during 486 951  hours of player exposure.

Lunacy revisited - the myth of the full moon: are football injuries related to the lunar cycle?

Previous literature suggests that human behaviour and physiology are somehow altered by the moon-cycle, with particular emphasis on poorer sleep quality and increased aggressive behaviour during full moon. The latter variables can negatively impact athletes' recovery and increase the likelihood of injury resulting from collision with another athlete. Therefore, the current study aimed to investigate the association between the lunar cycle and injury risk in professional football players (soccer).

Impaired TGF-β signaling in patients with active systemic lupus erythematosus is associated with an overexpression of IL-22.

The mechanisms leading to the disruption of self-tolerance in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) remain elusive. Herein, we aimed to decipher the molecular basis of the impaired response of mononuclear cells to TGF-β1. The Smad3-pathway was explored on CD3+ lymphocytes in either active or non active SLE patients.

Specific immune responses in mice following subchronic exposure to acetamiprid.

Aims: Acetamiprid (ACE) is an insecticide of the neonicotinoid family, the most widely used in the world. Herein, we assessed the effect of ACE on either the humoral or cellular immune responses of rodents. We also evaluated the role of curcumin in the restoration of altered immune responses after ACE treatment.

Computer-Assisted Classification Patterns in Autoimmune Diagnostics: The AIDA Project.

Antinuclear antibodies (ANAs) are significant biomarkers in the diagnosis of autoimmune diseases in humans, done by mean of Indirect ImmunoFluorescence (IIF) method, and performed by analyzing patterns and fluorescence intensity. This paper introduces the AIDA Project (autoimmunity: diagnosis assisted by computer) developed in the framework of an Italy-Tunisia cross-border cooperation and its preliminary results. A database of interpreted IIF images is being collected through the exchange of images and double reporting and a Gold Standard database, containing around 1000 double reported images, has been settled.

Functional defects of peripheral regulatory T lymphocytes in patients with progressive vitiligo.

Auto-reactive cytotoxic T lymphocytes play a key role in the progressive loss or destruction of melanocytes in vitiligo but the mechanism underlying the loss of self-tolerance is unknown. A deregulation of regulatory T-cell biology has recently been suggested. The analysis of the suppressive effects of peripheral T regulatory cells in vitiligo patients revealed a functional defect in seven of 15 cases.

Esophageal perforation during nasogastric tube insertion is a very unusual occurrence. In this case report, radiologic images revealed a right-sided aortic arch with a right-sided thoracic aorta. This anatomical anomaly probably contributed to the complication and necessitated a modified approach to the surgical repair.

[Reactive haemophagocytic syndrome and multiple organ failure in intensive care unit patients].

The incidence of the haemophagocytic syndrome in the ICU patients with multiple organ failure seems to be high. The haemophagocytic syndrome can be considered as the consequence of the initial aggression leading to multiple organ failure. On the contrary the haemophagocytic syndrome could be the cause of multiple organ failure.

[Experience with Ramipril (Triatec(R)) in the treatment of glaucomatous neuropathy].

Purpose: The main purpose of this study was to assess the improvement in visual function in patients with glaucomatous neuropathy treated with Ramipril (angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor); we were thus able to link ischemia and visual deterioration in glaucoma. Ramipril increases endothelium-dependent relaxation and vasodilatation to bradykinin via B2 receptors linked to the formation of nitric oxide (NO). On the other hand, Ramipril could have an influence on retinal neurotransmission modulation.
