Article Synopsis
  • Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) via transfemoral access is becoming more common in treating aortic valve disease, though access-related vascular complications still affect about 10% of procedures.
  • This study analyzed patients from Dutch and German hospitals who underwent TF-TAVI between 2017 and 2021, focusing on those who had occlusive complications (OC) versus hemorrhagic complications (HC) requiring further intervention.
  • Results showed that patients with OC had significantly smaller arterial diameters compared to those with HC, while those with HC had a higher tortuosity index, highlighting the need for careful preoperative imaging to tailor prevention strategies.

Veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (V-A ECMO) cannulas have major repercussions on vascular hemodynamics that can potentially lead to limb ischemia. Duplex ultrasound enables the non-invasive analysis of vascular hemodynamics. This study aims to describe the duplex parameters of the femoral vessels during V-A ECMO support, investigate differences between cannulated and non-cannulated vessels, and analyze the variations in the case of limb ischemia and intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABPs).

Objective: Venous injury to the inferior vena cava or iliac veins is rare but can result in high mortality rates. Traditional treatment by repair or ligation can be technically demanding. A relatively new treatment modality is the use of a covered stent to cover the venous defect.

Major venous bleeding is a feared complication during abdominal surgery. Management usually consists of open repair or ligation, despite technically demanding surgical exposure. We present two cases of major iliac vein hemorrhage during abdominal surgery that were controlled by using thoracic stent grafts.

Background: Treatment of rectovaginal fistulas is difficult, and many surgical interventions have been developed. The best surgical intervention for the closure of these fistulas is still unclear.

Objective: A systematic review was performed reporting the outcomes of different surgical techniques for rectovaginal fistulas.

Background: The long-term closure rate of high perianal fistulas after surgical treatment remains disappointing.

Objective: The goal of this study was to improve the long-term closure rate of high cryptoglandular perianal fistulas combining mucosal advancement flap with platelet-rich plasma.

Design: This study was retrospective in design.
