GCTs are developmental tumors and are likely to reflect ontogenetic and teratogenetic determinants. The objective of this study was to identify syndromes with or without congenital anomalies and non-syndromic defects as potential risk factors. Patients with extracranial GCTs (eGCTs) registered in MAKEI 96/MAHO 98 between 1996 and 2017 were included.

Methods: Serum levels of specific ECM turnover biomarkers were assessed in 192 participants with T2D and microalbuminuria from an observational study conducted at Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen from 2007 to 2008. Endpoints included CVD events, mortality, and DKD progression, defined as decline in estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) of >30 %.

Thermal printing technology requires a color developer to activate the dye under the action of heat. Bisphenol A (BPA) has traditionally been used for this purpose, although it has increasingly been replaced by bisphenol S (BPS) in recent years. Due to concerns regarding their toxicity, the Swiss authorities have banned both BPA and BPS from thermal papers since 2020.

Dysregulated turnover of collagen type III is associated with development of kidney fibrosis. We investigated whether a degradation product of collagen type III (C3M) was a risk marker for progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD), occurrence of cardiovascular disease (CVD), and mortality during follow up in people with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and microalbuminuria.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFAtypical teratoid/rhabdoid tumor (ATRT) is an aggressive central nervous system tumor characterized by loss of SMARCB1/INI1 protein expression and comprises three distinct molecular groups, ATRT-TYR, ATRT-MYC and ATRT-SHH. ATRT-SHH represents the largest molecular group and is heterogeneous with regard to age, tumor location and epigenetic profile. We, therefore, aimed to investigate if heterogeneity within ATRT-SHH might also have biological and clinical importance.

Prognosis for patients with chemoresistant, recurrent, or progressive RT remains dismal. Although decitabine, an epigenetically active agent, has mainly been evaluated in the management of hematologic malignancies in adults, safety in children has also been demonstrated repeatedly.

The transfer rate of 37 pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PA) found in ten naturally contaminated teas and herbal teas to their brews was studied in detail. Mixed herbal, peppermint, red bush, senna, black tea and green tea infusions were prepared according to the ISO guide and vendor's instructions, respectively, and parameters like herb-to-water ratio, steeping time and multiple extractions studied. In general, a transfer rate of 38-100% (median 95%) for brews following vendor's instructions was determined.

We investigated associations between four plasma metabolites in the TMAO pathway and risk of all-cause mortality, CVD and deterioration in renal function in individuals with type 2-diabetes (T2D) and albuminuria.
Materials And Methods: Plasma concentrations of TMAO, choline, carnitine, and betaine were measured by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry at baseline in 311 individuals with T2D and albuminuria.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the accuracy of CAD/CAM-fabricated bite splints in dependence of fabrication method (milling vs 3D printing), positioning (horizontal vs vertical), selection of material, and method of deviation measurement.
Materials And Methods: Bite splints were 3D-printed in either horizontal or vertical position (n = 10) using four different resins (Dental LT, Ortho Clear, Freeprint Splint, V-Splint). As control, ten bite splints were fabricated by CNC milling (ProArt CAD Splint).
Aims: Lipoprotein(a)(Lp(a)) has emerged as an independent risk marker for cardiovascular disease (CVD) in the general population and among persons with existing CVD. We investigated associations between serum Lp(a)concentrations and renal function decline, incident CVD and all-cause mortality in individuals with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and microalbuminuria.
Methods: Prospective study including 198 individuals with T2D, microalbuminuria and no CVD.
Background: Controversy exists as to what may be defined as standard of care (including markers for stratification) for patients with atypical teratoid/rhabdoid tumors (ATRTs). The European Rhabdoid Registry (EU-RHAB) recruits uniformly treated patients and offers standardized genetic and DNA methylation analyses.
Methods: Clinical, genetic, and treatment data of 143 patients from 13 European countries were analyzed (2009-2017).
Background: Limited data on the prevalence and medical care of sickle cell disease (SCD) in Germany are available. Here, we make use of a patient registry to characterize the burden of disease and the treatment modalities for patients with SCD in Germany.
Procedure: A nationwide German registry for patients with SCD documents basic data on diagnosis and patient history retrospectively at the time of registration.
Previous studies have shown that pollen products sold as nutritional supplements and used in apitherapy may contain toxic pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs) if bees collect pollen from PA-containing plants, such as . In this study, the botanical origin of pollen from two observation sites was studied. Despite a high PA content in pollen samples that bees collected during 's flowering period, bees were found to collect relatively few pollen loads.

Methods: The study included patients between 3 and 20 years with clinically and radiologically confirmed DIPG. Primary endpoint was 6-month progression-free survival (PFS) following administration of nimotuzumab in combination with external beam radiotherapy (RT).
Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (alloHSCT) has become a well-established treatment option for many patients suffering from malignant and non-malignant diseases. In the past decade, high-resolution HLA-typing, remission surveillance, pre-emptive immune intervention, and standardisation in supportive care measures have substantially improved transplant outcomes. This retrospective study evaluated transplant procedures in 162 paediatric patients with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (n = 124) or acute myeloid leukaemia (n = 38) who received their first alloHSCT in our institution over an 11-year period.

To the best of our knowledge, 3 case reports of colorectal Russell body containing lesions have been reported in the English literature (searched from 1980 to date), including just one case report of Colonic Russell body inflammatory polyp. Their importance lies in being aware of this unusual entity, recognizing it as well as the clinical scenario in which this typically arises and differentiating it from its malignant mimics that come in the histologic differential.

We clarify the predictive value of u-KIM-1 and u-NGAL for decline in eGFR, cardiovascular events (CVE) and all-cause mortality in patients with T2D and persistent microalbuminuria without clinical cardiovascular disease.
Methods: This is a prospective study that included 200 patients.
Objectives: Two biomarkers, growth differentiation factor 15 (GDF-15) and fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF-23)), reflecting different aspects of renal pathophysiology, were evaluated as determinants of decline in estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), incident cardiovascular disease (CVD) and all-cause mortality in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and microalbuminuria, but without clinical cardiac disease.
Materials And Methods: Prospective study including 200 T2D patients. The predefined endpoint of chronic kidney disease (CKD) progression: A decline in eGFR of >30% at any time point during follow-up.
Objective: Type 2 diabetes is a common risk factor for the development of chronic kidney disease (CKD). Enhanced de novo collagen type VI (COL VI) formation has been associated with renal fibrosis and CKD. We investigated the hypothesis that PRO-C6, a product specifically generated during COL VI formation, is prognostic for adverse outcomes in patients with type 2 diabetes and microalbuminuria.
