Objective: With the Regulation (EC) 6/2019, antibiotic drying off of the entire dairy herd is no longer permissible. Hence, it is necessary to establish selective antibiotic drying off (SDCT: Selective Dry Cow Therapy) in dairy herds. With the publication of the PraeRi study in 2020, systematic data for the implementation of SDCT on farms became available for several German states.

In this study, we prospectively evaluated the SACOV-19 score for its ability to predict complicated or more severe COVID-19.
Methods: In this prospective multicenter study, we included 124 adult patients with acute COVID-19 in three German hospitals, who were diagnosed in an early, uncomplicated stage of COVID-19 within 72 h of inclusion.
Introduction: A rupture of the pectoralis major muscle is a rare injury pattern overall, but it is frequently described in athletes, particularly in weightlifting. The risk of sustaining this type of injury is present especially during the eccentric phase of muscle loading. An association between such injuries and the abuse of anabolic steroids is described in the literature, but there is no coherent evidence to support this.

Nevertheless, the exact patient requirements for medical apps in the field of orthopedic and trauma surgery are currently unknown.
Objective: The aim of this study was to define target groups, evaluate patient requirements, and the potential and pitfalls regarding medical apps specific for patients receiving orthopedic and trauma surgical care.
Study Design: Retrospective survey.
Objectives: Purpose of this study was to explore whether bowel and bladder management can be influenced by locomotion therapy with HAL Robot Suit.
Methods: 35 subjects with acute (< one year since injury, n = 13) or chronic (> one year since injury, n = 22) incomplete paraplegia (American Spinal Injury Association Impairment Scale (AIS) B, n = 1 / AIS C, n = 22 / AIS D, n = 7) or complete paraplegia (AIS A, n = 5) with zones of partial preservation (ZPP) participated.
Loss and dilution of coagulation factors have been observed following multiple trauma. Timely recognition of reduced clotting factor activity might facilitate therapeutic action to restore normal coagulation function. This study investigates the potential role of some well-known trauma scores in predicting coagulation factor activity after multiple injuries.

Mobile health (mHealth) has become an integral part of some areas of patient care. In contrast to other disciplines, routine integration of mobile devices in orthopedics and trauma surgery in Germany is still in its infancy.

However, it is still unclear how the apps currently available in the two major app stores can be used in daily clinical routine by German orthopedic surgeons.
Objective: This study aimed to gain evidence regarding the quantity and quality of apps available in the two major app stores and their suitability for use by orthopedic surgeons in Germany.
Background: Ankle sprains are one of the most frequent sports injuries. With respect to the high prevalence of ankle ligament injuries and patients' young age, optimizing treatment and rehabilitation is mandatory to prevent future complications such as chronic ankle instability or osteoarthritis.
Objective: In modern times, an increasing amount of smartphone usage in patient care is evident.
Bovine clinical mastitis quarter foremilk samples were collected from 15 German dairy farms for the isolation of Streptococcus uberis strains. Samples were also collected from the 8 spots where Streptococcus uberis was most expected in the dairy environment to investigate the transmission behavior of Streptococcus uberis within the farm. The selected environmental spots for sampling were the inner surface of the milking liner, drinking troughs (on pasture and in the barn), exit area of milking parlor, bedding material from the lying area in the barn, passageway to pasture, lying area of soil or vegetation on pasture, and the barn area in front of the milking parlor.

In the course of digitalization the smartphone is penetrating more and more areas of life giving the user mobile and almost ubiquitous access to the internet and other web applications. The advantages of mHealth are an integral part in some areas of patient care but in contrast to other disciplines, routine integration of mobile devices into orthopedics and trauma surgery is still in its infancy. A survey among German orthopedists and trauma surgeons revealed which kind of apps have become established in everyday clinical practice to date.

As a result, digitalization has already become an integral part of routine patient care but in contrast to other specialist disciplines, such as radiology or laboratory medicine, orthopedics and trauma surgery are still at the beginning of new technologies. Artificial intelligence is not only used in the form of surgical robots in joint surgery or in the design of individualized implants but also provides valuable decision-making aids through appropriate algorithms for diagnosis and treatment.

Since the DNA amount of a single cell is very limited, cellular DNA usually needs to be amplified by whole-genome amplification before being subjected to further analysis. A single nucleus only contains two haploid genomes.

In addition to the detection of single nucleotide variants (SNVs), information on copy number variants (CNVs) is of great interest. Several algorithms exist to detect CNVs by analyzing whole genome sequencing data or data from samples enriched by hybridization-capture.

Methods: Eighty-one patients with liver cirrhosis and consequential portal hypertension had TIPS implantation (bare metal) for either refractory ascites (RA) (n = 27) or variceal bleeding (VB) (n = 54). Endpoints for the study were: technical success, stent occlusion and stent stenosis, rebleeding, RA and mortality.
Background: Despite advances in the first- and secondline treatment of advanced breast cancer, optimal therapy thereafter remains controversial. Treatment of heavily pretreated patients is not standardized, often of low efficacy, and limited by comorbidity. In these patients, an effective treatment with low toxicity is needed.

Hyperlipidaemia with elevated levels of free fatty acids (FFAs) is also frequently seen in obesity and in the metabolic syndrome. We hypothesized, therefore, that hyperlipidaemia may alter the activity of the HPA axis.

Among the responses frequently reported for these deficiencies is differential expression of several genes involved in mitochondrial biogenesis. These responses are often associated with elevated oxygen radical production.

Genome-wide transcriptome analyses were employed to detect genes that are differentially transcribed during PHB biosynthesis. For this purpose, four transcriptomes from different growth phases of the wild-type H16 and of the two PHB-negative mutants PHB(-)4 and Delta phaC1 were compared: (i) cells from the exponential growth phase with cells that were in transition to stationary growth phase, and (ii) cells from the transition phase with cells from the stationary growth phase of R.

Given that FGF-21 has been suggested to be a peroxisome proliferator-activator receptor (PPAR) alpha-dependent regulator of fasting metabolism, we hypothesized that free fatty acids (FFAs), natural agonists of PPARalpha, might modify FGF-21 levels.
Research Design And Methods: The effect of fatty acids on FGF-21 was investigated in vitro in HepG2 cells.
The cellular consequences of deficiencies of the mitochondrial OXPHOS system include a variety of direct and secondary changes in metabolite homeostasis, such as ROS, Ca(2+), ADP/ATP, and NAD/NADH. The adaptive responses to these changes include the transcriptional responses of nuclear and mitochondrial genes that are mediated by these metabolites, control of the mitochondria permeability transition pore, and a great variety of secondary signalling elements. Among the transcriptional responses reported over more than a decade using material harboring mtDNA mutations, deletions, or depletions, nuclear and mitochondrial DNA OXPHOS genes have mostly been up-regulated.
