Periprosthetic acetabular fractures are a major challenge in orthopedics. Proper recognition of these complex cases helps to identify and treat patients with different presentations. These fractures can occur intraoperatively and be treated immediately, or they can occur postoperatively, following trauma or in the context of chronic low bone quality or associated implant loosening.

Background: Preterm birth contributes to adverse mental health outcomes of parents dealing with a premature neonate. The main objective of this study is to determine whether music therapy (MT) songwriting during the infants' stay in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) is superior to standard care in reducing the risk of postpartum depression in high-risk parents of preterm children throughout the hospital treatment. The secondary objectives include assessment of effectiveness of MT in other aspects of mental health (anxiety level, perceived stress, mental wellbeing, coping, resilience).

We therefore conducted a prospective in silico study in order to: (1) determine the reproducibility and sensitivity of the clinical measurement of the LLD in different ideal and "degraded" clinical situations, (2) determine the threshold from which the human eye is capable of detecting a length inequality in clinic, (3) to determine whether the use of a graduated support (centimeter paper) improves the clinical measurement threshold.
Hypothesis: Our hypothesis was that clinical measurement on a centimeter support would improve clinical measurement accuracy.
The therapeutic potential of bone marrow mesenchymal stromal cells (bmMSCs) to address heart failure needs improvement for better engraftment and survival. This study explores the role of metabolic sorting for human bmMSCs in coculture in vitro and on doxorubicin-induced heart failure mice models. Using functional, epigenetic, and gene expression approaches on cells sorted for mitochondrial membrane potential in terms of their metabolic status, we demonstrated that bmMSCs selected for their glycolytic metabolism presented proliferative advantage and resistance to oxidative stress thereby favoring cell engraftment.

Methods: This randomized, single-blind trial enrolled patients undergoing elective THA under general anaesthesia and standardized postoperative analgesia.
Background: Total hip arthroplasty (THA) after acetabular fracture is typically performed months or years later for posttraumatic arthritis after initial conservative treatment. But THA can be performed earlier after open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) of the fracture. The aim of this study was to determine which strategy is best.

To the best of our knowledge, however, no studies compared general versus spinal anesthesia (GA vs. SA) in the surgical pathway of patients undergoing total knee or hip arthroplasty (TKA, THA).

Postoperative delirium (POD) and postoperative neurocognitive disorders (NCDs) are particularly frequent. The consequences of these disorders on postoperative recovery and autonomy are not fully described.

Moreover, BM-MSCs regulate hematopoiesis by contributing to the hematopoietic stem cell niche in providing critical cytokines, chemokines and extracellular matrix components. However, BM-MSCs contain a heterogeneous cell population that remains ill-defined.

Several studies report metaphyseal implant breakage having a negative impact on survivorship. The aim of the study was to evaluate the outcome of an uncemented modular fluted tapered stem (MFT) in revision surgery.

Purpose: The SFAV (Simple Foot and Ankle Value) consists in asking patients how they rate their joint function on the day of the examination, as a percentage of that of a normal joint (0-100% scale with 100% being normal). The main objective was to validate the SFAV by determining its correlation with validated foot and ankle function scores.
Methods: This was a prospective study.
Objectives: To assess the annual costs 2 years before and 2 years after a hospitalized fall-related injury (HFRI) and the 2-year survival among the population 75+ years old.
Design: We performed a population-based, retrospective cohort study using the French national health insurance claims database.
Setting And Participants: Patients 75+ years old who had experienced a fall followed by hospitalization, identified using an algorithm based on International Classification of Diseases codes.

Purpose: The use of regional anesthesia (RA) for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction reduces morphine consumption, the time spent in the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) and the hospital readmission rate. However, RA failures due to delays in the induction of anesthesia and its unpredictable success rate (Cuvillon et al. Ann Fr Anesth 29:710-715, 2010; Jankowski et al.

Method: A total of 212 fractures were classified according to Letournel and Judet by a senior orthopaedic surgeon, a senior radiologist, and a resident radiologist.
The smaller the head fragment, the more likely it is located at the bottom and in front of the femoral head, which then determines the most suitable approach. A CT scan is essential after reduction and before resumption of weight-bearing to verify the size and congruence of the fragments and whether there are foreign bodies and/or a fracture of the posterior wall. Classifications should include the size of the fragment and whether or not there is an associated fracture of the acetabulum or femoral neck (historical 'Pipkin', modernised 'Chiron').

No additional tunnels are drilled. The dual-strand graft is attached to the bone cortex with a nonmetallic, knotless anchor using minimally invasive incisions.

Several factors must be taken into consideration when making this choice, especially the size and position of the existing tunnels. When the tibial tunnel is semianatomic, it is difficult to make a new tunnel in the correct position without overlapping the existing tunnel.

Pharmacological in vivo studies have focused mostly on prevention of arthrofibrosis. This study used a rabbit model to evaluate intra-articular (IA) effects of celecoxib in treating contracted knees alone, or in combination with capsular release.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: In anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction with anterolateral ligament (ALL) reconstruction, precise positioning of the ALL graft on the femur and tibia is key to achieve rotational control. The lateral femoral epicondyle is often used as a reference point for positioning of the ALL graft and can be located by palpation or with ultrasound guidance.
Purpose: To compare the ALL graft positioning on the femoral side between an ultrasound-guided technique and a palpation technique for the location of the lateral epicondyle.

Purpose: Post-traumatic arthritis is known complication following acetabular fracture. The aim was to compare mid- to long-term outcomes of acute THA (aTHA) for acetabular fracture and delayed THA (dTHA) following failure of ORIF or conservative management.
Methods: We retrospectively analysed 60 THA (21 aTHA; 39 dTHA) performed for acetabular fracture between 2004 and 2014 in 60 patients with a mean age of 59 years (20-94).
Background: Instability after hip arthroplasty, whether it is a total (THA) or intermediate (HA), poses a major risk, however arthroplasty is the standard treatment for displaced intracapsular fractures of the femoral neck of the elderly. Three types of arthroplasties can be proposed: total prostheses with or without a dual mobility cup (DM THA) reducing the risk of dislocation, and hemiarthroplasties. In the absence of clear recommendations regarding the type of implant to be used and the scarcity of studies comparing HA and DM THA, we conducted a monocentric comparative retrospective study using the propensity score method to compare DM THA versus HA on recently displaced femoral neck fractures: (1) survival and risk of dislocation, (2) functional results, (3) mortality.

An internal brace is added to augment the graft. The graft is passed through the femur by drilling an outside-in tunnel from the isometric point F9 of Krackow toward the ACL's footprint and is then double fixed at the tibia using an interference screw and a cortical button.
