Clinical significance of NOTCH1 and FBXW7 alterations in adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma.

Here, we investigated the clinical significance of NOTCH1 and FBXW7 alterations for adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATLL) treatment outcomes. NOTCH1 alterations were identified in 37 (14.4%) of 257 patients, of which 33 were single nucleotide variants/insertion-deletions in the PEST domain, and 7 were in the heterodimerization or LIN-12/Notch repeats domains.

Clinicopathological features of adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma with T-follicular helper phenotype.

Aims: T-follicular helper (TFH) cells are effector T-cells that are crucial for B-cell selection and differentiation. T-cell lymphomas derived from TFH cells have distinct characteristics. Additionally, in the World Health Organization (WHO) classification 5th edition, three lymphomas were introduced as independent disease entities with TFH cell origin.

The first autopsy case of Epstein-Barr virus-positive marginal zone lymphoma that deteriorated after COVID-19 vaccination.

This is the first autopsy case of Epstein-Barr virus-positive marginal zone lymphoma (EBV + MZL) with an other iatrogenic immunodeficiency-associated lymphoproliferative disorders (LPD) (methotrexate [MTX]-associated LPD) that deteriorated after the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) vaccine. This case had a unique immunophenotype. A 71-year-old female patient with rheumatoid arthritis receiving MTX presented with fatigue 1 week after the SARS-CoV-2 vaccination.

CCR7 alterations associated with inferior outcome of adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma under mogamulizumab treatment.

Adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATL) patients have a very poor prognosis. The humanized anti-CCR4 therapeutic monoclonal antibody, mogamulizumab, is a key agent for ATL treatment. Our previous integrated molecular analysis demonstrated that among all the driver genes in ATL, CCR7 gene alterations were significantly associated with clinical response to mogamulizumab.

Endometrial stromal sarcoma of the sigmoid colon: a case report and literature review.

Endometrial stromal sarcoma (ESS) is a rare mesenchymal tumor of the uterus that accounts for 7-25% of uterine sarcomas and < 1% of uterine tumors. Previously reported sites include the ovary, bowel wall, abdomen, peritoneum, pelvis, and vagina; however, ESS in the extrauterine area is rare. We report a rare case of endometrial stromal sarcoma that developed in the sigmoid colon along the gonadal vasculature, which was difficult to distinguish from colon cancer.

The first case of methotrexate-associated lymphoproliferative disorder presenting as follicular T-cell lymphoma.

This is the first case of follicular T-cell lymphoma (FTCL) presenting as methotrexate-associated lymphoproliferative disorders (MTX-LPDs). A 69-year-old man treated rheumatoid arthritis with methotrexate presented with cervical swelling, hoarseness and fever. Imaging studies revealed multiple lymphadenopathy and lymphoma was suspected.

Adult T-cell leukaemia/lymphoma (ATL) patients have a poor prognosis. Here, we investigated the impact of TP53 gene mutations on prognosis of ATL treated in different ways. Among 177 patients, we identified 47 single nucleotide variants or insertion-deletions (SNVs/indels) of the TP53 gene in 37 individuals.

The first reported case of primary extranodal counterpart of follicular T-cell lymphoma of submandibular gland.

This is the first reported case of follicular T-cell lymphoma (FTCL) that primarily developed in the extranodal site of the right submandibular gland. An 86-year-old man was detected with a right cervical mass suspected to be malignant lymphoma during his physical examination. Imaging studies revealed that the mass was a submandibular gland tumor.

Deep learning shows the capability of high-level computer-aided diagnosis in malignant lymphoma.

A pathological evaluation is one of the most important methods for the diagnosis of malignant lymphoma. A standardized diagnosis is occasionally difficult to achieve even by experienced hematopathologists. Therefore, established procedures including a computer-aided diagnosis are desired.

Methotrexate-associated Lymphoproliferative Disorders in Patients With Rheumatoid Arthritis: Clinicopathologic Features and Prognostic Factors.

Methotrexate (MTX) carries a risk of lymphoproliferative disorders (LPDs), but MTX-associated LPDs (MTX-LPDs) can resolve spontaneously after MTX withdrawal. However, the precise clinicopathologic features of MTX-LPD remain unclear. We aimed to investigate the clinicopathologic characteristics, outcomes, and prognostic factors for histologic types of MTX-LPD.

An autopsy case of progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy after rituximab therapy for malignant lymphoma.

Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) is a rare fatal demyelinating disease of the central nervous system caused by reactivation of the JC virus (JCV), which is named after the initials of the patient from whom the virus was first isolated. JCV is highly prevalent worldwide, infects humans in early childhood, and the infection persists throughout the course of life in latent form. The present paper deals with the second autopsy case report of rituximab-associated PML in Japan.

Epidemiology and secular trends of malignant lymphoma in Japan: Analysis of 9426 cases according to the World Health Organization classification.

This study provides an overview of the epidemiology and secular trends of malignant lymphoma in Japan. Using data from clinics and hospitals throughout Japan, we analyzed 9426 cases of malignant lymphoma diagnosed in 2007-2014. We show that the proportion of follicular lymphoma and methotrexate-associated lymphoproliferative disorder increased during this time, as did the onset age for follicular lymphoma and diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.

Clinicopathological analysis of immunohistochemical expression of retinoic acid-related orphan receptor-γt in peripheral T-cell lymphoma, not otherwise specified.

Peripheral T-cell lymphoma, not otherwise specified (PTCL-NOS) is cytologically and phenotypically heterogeneous. Retinoic acid-related orphan receptor-γt (RORγt) is a transcription factor that regulates the differentiation of naïve CD4 helper T cells to Th17 cells. In the present study, we immunohistochemically confirmed the expression of RORγt in PTCL-NOS.

Prognostic factors for histiocytic and dendritic cell neoplasms.

Histiocytic and dendritic cell neoplasms are rare and poorly studied. We report the clinical characteristics and prognostic factors in such cases in Japan. We investigated the clinical characteristics and survival in adult patients with histiocytic and dendritic cell neoplasms.

Frequent expression of CD30 in extranodal NK/T-cell lymphoma: Potential therapeutic target for anti-CD30 antibody-based therapy.

Extranodal NK/T-cell lymphoma, nasal type (ENKTL) is a subtype of non-Hodgkin lymphoma with a poor prognosis. Although first-line treatments for patients with localized ENKTL have been established, there is no gold standard treatment for patients with advanced ENKTL and refractory and/or relapsed disease. Anti-CD30 antibody-based therapy, including brentuximab vedotin (BV), has been shown to target malignant lymphomas with CD30 expression.

Clinicopathological features of cryptococcal lymphadenitis and a review of literature.

Cryptococcosis is an invasive fungal infection in immunocompromised patients. The clinicopathological characteristics of cryptococcal lymphadenitis are not well known. We analyzed three cases of cryptococcal lymphadenitis and compared their characteristics with those in previous reports.
