A nurse-delivered intervention to reduce insomnia in cancer survivors: Study protocol for a randomized-controlled trial.

Insomnia has been frequently reported as one of the most burdensome symptoms among cancer survivors. To date, little research exists on strategies to effectively reduce insomnia in cancer survivors, especially in the application of cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBTI) at the bedside by nurses. The current objective is to determine efficacy and durability of a streamlined, individually delivered version of CBTI, specifically Brief Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (BBTI) versus a healthy eating attention control, using a large heterogeneous sample of 158 cancer survivors.

Tracking white matter degeneration in asymptomatic and symptomatic MAPT mutation carriers.

Our aim was to investigate the patterns and trajectories of white matter (WM) diffusion abnormalities in microtubule-associated protein tau (MAPT) mutations carriers. We studied 22 MAPT mutation carriers (12 asymptomatic, 10 symptomatic) and 20 noncarriers from 8 families, who underwent diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) and a subset (10 asymptomatic, 6 symptomatic MAPT mutation carriers, and 10 noncarriers) were followed annually (median = 4 years). Cross-sectional and longitudinal changes in mean diffusivity (MD) and fractional anisotropy were analyzed.

A structured training programme for caregivers of inpatients after stroke (TRACS): a cluster randomised controlled trial and cost-effectiveness analysis.

Background: Most patients who have had a stroke are dependent on informal caregivers for activities of daily living. The TRACS trial investigated a training programme for caregivers (the London Stroke Carers Training Course, LSCTC) on physical and psychological outcomes, including cost-effectiveness, for patients and caregivers after a disabling stroke.

Methods: We undertook a pragmatic, multicentre, cluster randomised controlled trial with a parallel cost-effectiveness analysis.

Reproducible two-dimensional capillary electrophoresis analysis of Barrett's esophagus tissues.

We have constructed a high-speed, two-dimensional capillary electrophoresis system with a compact and high-sensitivity fluorescence detector. This instrument is used for the rapid and reproducible separations of Barrett's esophagus tissue homogenates. Proteins and biogenic amines are labeled with the fluorogenic reagent 3-(2-furoyl)quinoline-2-carboxaldehyde.

Bowel function measurements of individuals with different eating patterns.

Bowel function was assessed in 51 subjects: 10 women and seven men who habitually consumed an omnivorous, vegetarian, or vegan diet. The subjects on these diets had a mean intake of fibre of 23 g, 37 g, and 47 g respectively. Mean transit times were variable and not significantly different between the groups.
