Patent foramen ovale (PFO) is a congenital heart defect affecting up to 25% of the population, associated with an increased risk of cryptogenic stroke. Percutaneous PFO closure is a minimally invasive procedure aimed at reducing stroke risk by eliminating the right-to-left shunt. This monocentric, retrospective study analyzed 716 patients who underwent PFO closure between January 2000 and February 2023.

Given the pattern of DbpA staining in inflammatory glomerular diseases, without adherence to cell boundaries, we hypothesized extracellular protein occurrence and specific functions. Lipopolysaccharide and ionomycin induce DbpA expression and secretion from melanoma and mesangial cells.

Treatment is complicated both by the evolutionary similarity between humans and fungi and by the frequent emergence of drug resistance. Studies in fungal pathogens have long been slowed by a lack of high-throughput tools and community resources that are common in model organisms.

Its strongly negatively solvatochromic behavior arises from differential solvation between its electronic ground and excited states, making it a valuable tool for assessing solvent polarity using the (30) polarity scale, also devised by Dimroth and Reichardt.

Methods: The study introduces a label-free, live-cell analysis method assessing endogenous fluorescence of NAD(P)H and FAD in surface-stained cells by flow cytometry.
Neutrophils are known to contribute in many aspects of tumor progression and metastasis. The presence of neutrophils or neutrophil-derived mediators in the tumor microenvironment has been associated with poor prognosis in several types of solid tumors. However, the effects of classical cancer treatments such as radiation therapy on neutrophils are poorly understood.

It is assumed to be due to a better response to radiotherapy (RT), and presumably to an increased immunogenicity. However, little is known how the immune phenotype of HNSCC tumor cells is modulated by standard treatment, namely by radiochemotherapy (RCT).

To investigate the role of DbpA in kidney disease, we utilized the murine unilateral ureter obstruction (UUO) model, which recapitulates many features of obstructive nephropathy seen in humans. We observed that DbpA protein expression is induced within the renal interstitium following disease induction.

Only a subset of patients with triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) benefits from a combination of radio- (RT) and immunotherapy. Therefore, we aimed to examine the impact of radioresistance and brain metastasizing potential on the immunological phenotype of TNBC cells following hypofractionated RT by analyzing cell death, immune checkpoint molecule (ICM) expression and activation of human monocyte-derived dendritic cells (DCs). MDA-MB-231 triple-negative breast cancer tumor cells were used as model system.

We investigated normoxic HIF-1α stabilization and its consequences using live cell imaging, immunoblotting, Bio-Plex multiplex immunoassay, immunofluorescence staining, and barrier integrity assays. We demonstrate for the first time that IL-8 and M-CSF caused HIF-1α stabilization and translocation into the nucleus under normoxic conditions in both human coronary endothelial cells (HCAECs) and HIF-1α-mKate2-expressing HEK-293 cells.

Thus, this study aims to investigate the potential of cardiac MRI (CMR) based parameters of left atrial (LA) function and strain to detect early stages of AFD.

In kidney, compensatory mechanisms are activated to balance salt turnover and maintain homeostasis. Data on the long-term effects of HSD with respect to tubular cell functions and kidney architecture that exclude confounding indirect blood pressure effects are scarce.

In 2007, a voluntary national electronic surveillance tool for the documentation of consumption of alcohol-based hand rub (AHC) was introduced as a surrogate for hand hygiene compliance (HAND-KISS) and for the provision of benchmark data as feedback. The aim of the study was to determine the trend in alcohol-based hand rub consumption between 2007 and 2018.

This work was developed as part of the general design process for the telescope, allowing us to evaluate the impact of various design choices on performance metrics and potential systematic effects. The primary goal of the simulations was to evaluate the final design of the reflectors and the cold optics that are now being built.

It is unknown whether an autoimmune response against cancerous human YB-1 with posttranslational protein modifications or processing develops. We performed a systematic analysis for autoantibody formation directed against conformational and linear epitopes within the protein.

Herein, steady-state and time-resolved spectroscopic techniques are combined with new and reported quantum-chemical calculations to demonstrate the excited state leading to the formation of the thietane intermediate, its rate, and the formation of the (6-4) photoadduct using the 5'-TT(4tT)T(4tT)TT-3' DNA oligonucleotide.

We achieve a 14% B-mode power variance reduction, the highest to date for internal delensing, and improve this result to 22% by applying for the first time an iterative maximum a posteriori delensing method. Our analysis demonstrates the capability of internal delensing as a means of improving constraints on inflationary models, paving the way for the optimal analysis of next-generation primordial B-mode experiments.

A causal link between an activated immune system and aggravated atherosclerosis has been postulated that skews the system towards inflammatory responses. Previously, we demonstrated a positive association of pro-inflammatory cytokines with monocytic Y-box binding protein-1 (YB-1) expression and vessel wall infiltration in hemodialysis patients.

The lensing signal is obtained using a new estimator that extracts the lensing dipole signature from stacked images formed by rotating the cluster-centered Stokes QU map cutouts along the direction of the locally measured background CMB polarization gradient. Using data from the SPTpol 500 deg^{2} survey at the locations of roughly 18 000 clusters with richness λ≥10 from the Dark Energy Survey (DES) Year-3 full galaxy cluster catalog, we detect lensing at 4.
