Hepatic encephalopathy (HE) is one of the most debilitating cerebral complications of liver cirrhosis. The one-year survival of patients with liver cirrhosis and severe encephalopathy is less than 50%. Recent studies have indicated that neuroinflammation is a new player in the pathogenesis of HE, which seems to be involved in the development of cognitive impairment.
