Numerous studies have been published regarding outcomes of cancer patients infected with the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) virus causing the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection. However, most of these are single-center studies with a limited number of patients. To better assess the outcomes of this new infection in this subgroup of susceptible patients, we performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the impact of COVID-19 infection on cancer patients.

Introduction: Recent advances in allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) have allowed us to offer HSCT to older, advanced disease patients with more co-morbidities. Cardiovascular toxicity post-transplant is a major concern due to the increased risk of mortality. Few studies have examined the prevalence of CV events including CAD (MI, angina, PCI, CABG, CHF, arrhythmias), HTN, stroke/TIA, and death in the first 100 days post-transplant.

Article Synopsis
  • - Post allogenic hematopoietic cell transplant (HCT) hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is a serious, poorly understood condition that typically emerges within the first 2-6 weeks post-transplant, particularly in patients with cord blood donors or HLA mismatches.
  • - This condition is characterized by an excessive immune response (hypercytokinemia) leading to a low survival rate, especially in individuals with liver issues, graft failure, or blood vessel complications.
  • - Treatment primarily involves steroids, with options like cyclosporine and etoposide being explored; more research is needed to establish effective therapies, including the potential use of etoposide-based conditioning reg
