Zero- to ultralow-field nuclear magnetic resonance (ZULF NMR) allows molecular structure elucidation via measurement of electron-mediated spin-spin J-couplings. This study examines zero-field J-spectra from molecules with quadrupolar nuclei, exemplified by solutions of various isotopologues of ammonium cations. The spectra reveal differences between various isotopologues upon extracting precise J-coupling values from pulse-acquire measurements.

The parameters of a compressed representation of a mixed quantum state are adapted dynamically according to the Lindblad master equation by employing a time-dependent variational principle. We illustrate our approach by solving the dissipative quantum Heisenberg model in one dimension for up to 40 spins and in two dimensions for a 4×4 system and by applying it to the simulation of confinement dynamics in the presence of dissipation.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFWe present continuous-wave (CW) electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy data of the spin probe 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl (TEMPO) in aqueous solutions of poly(ethylene oxide)/poly(propylene oxide)/poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO-PPO-PEO) triblock copolymers (Pluronic or Poloxamer). TEMPO is notably smaller than the spin probes conventionally used in the context of polymer science and reveals the early emergence of small hydrophobic cavities when PPO strands of several molecules aggregate and collapse upon temperature increase. The occurrence of hydrophobic cavities appears independent of the overall molecular weight of the Pluronics, but clearly depends on the relative PPO/PEO contents.

This study evaluated the impact of a streamlined PCM delivered through a Medicaid managed care organization (MMCO), an infrastructure with the potential to sustain this program for the long term.
Methods: This randomized trial was conducted within an MMCO serving New York City between May 2005 and December 2005.
We describe a novel approach to generate dynamic pH gradients suited to fractionate or purify samples of biomolecules or particles such as proteins and viruses in tiny volumes. The method combines diffusion and electromigration between micro-scaled channels embedded in hydrogel. For the used geometry and in accordance with numerical calculations the gel-channel system reaches a tuneable, steady-state pH gradient after a few minutes.

The telomers of several linear plasmids of Rhodococcus opacus (formerly Nocardia opaca) were studied. The plasmids pHG201, pHG204 and pHG205 carry proteins bound to their ends, as shown by gel retardation experiments. A sequence hybridizing with the terminal sequence of pHG207, a recombinant linear plasmid consisting of the left part of pHG204 and the right part of pHG205, which was analysed in a previous study by the authors, could be detected in all linear plasmids of the wild-type R.
