Complementary and integrative healthcare (CIH) is increasingly recognized as a valuable approach to empowering and activating cancer patients. Studies have shown that higher patient activation is positively associated with improved health outcomes and reduced healthcare costs. The CCC-Integrativ study aimed to assess the implementation of an evidence-based counseling service on CIH at four Comprehensive Cancer Centers (CCC) in Germany.

Integrating evidence-based INI into healthcare aligns with global initiatives such as the WHO's Decade of Healthy Aging 2020-2030. Many INI are low-threshold practices, empowering patients to independently manage health.

However, international studies show that nurses, physicians, and other health care professionals (HCPs) at hospitals often do not feel sufficiently informed about different CIM approaches. Moreover, they do not feel trained enough to counsel their patients appropriately.

Introduction: Approximately one fifth of the German population suffers from chronic pain, which is often associated with limitations in coping with everyday life, social isolation and psychological comorbidities such as anxiety and depression. The importance of a treatment approach that considers biological, psychological, and social factors (bio-psycho-social model) as well as non-drug interventions is emphasized in current guidelines, but presents challenges for primary care practices. To support the implementation of evidence-based best practice recommendations, the RELIEF project (Resource-oriented case management to implement recommendations for patients with chronic pain and frequent use of analgesics in general practices) aims to develop a case management program for the primary care of patients with chronic non-tumor pain.

Although national and international guidelines on chronic pain emphasize the importance of non-pharmacological interventions (for example, hot and cold applications) and educational approaches such as teaching self-management strategies to deal with pain, the most common applied intervention for chronic and acute pain is a pharmacological therapy. The aim of this article is to provide an overview of the potential of naturopathic nursing interventions for the care of patients with chronic and/or acute pain, focusing on so-called external applications such as wraps and compresses, which are safe, have a low-risk profile and are easy to apply, thus making them suitable for self-application.

Therefore, there is a high patient and provider interest in complementary non-pharmacological therapies, but its evidence base has not yet been clearly pointed out in the context of CIPN. The results of a scoping review overviewing the published clinical evidence on the application of complementary therapies for improving the complex CIPN symptomatology are synthesized with the recommendations of an expert consensus process aiming to draw attention to supportive strategies for CIPN.

To date, there is no evidence showing benefit of specific therapies for this condition, and patients likely resort to self-initiated therapies. We aimed to obtain information about therapies used by and needs of this population via inductive crowdsourcing research.

Patients were offered a conversation about their spirituality (spiritual history) which also included questions about their social relationships. The aim of this study was to examine patients' experiences regarding the acceptability, feasibility, conversational content and perceived benefits and harms of the interventions focusing on social relationships and activities.

Within the 'Holistic care program for elderly patients to integrate spiritual needs, social activity and self-care into disease management in primary care (HoPES3)' a complex intervention was evaluated in a cluster-randomized trial. The aim of this study was to explore the acceptability, feasibility, benefits, and harms of a spiritual history taken by general practitioners (GPs) as part of the complex intervention.

We found correlations between GPs' personal spirituality, their spiritual competence and their attitudes towards SC. The ability to perceive spiritual needs of patients was the competence most strongly related to GPs' attitude towards SC.

Medical guidelines recommend actively approaching patients with cancer discussing potential benefits and risks of individual CIH methods. While some CIH methods, for example, acupuncture and yoga, have been proven effective in high-quality studies, other CIH methods lack studies or bear the risk of interactions with chemotherapeutics, for example, herbal drugs.

While the effectiveness of the interventions was evaluated in a cluster-randomized trial, this article investigates the patients' views concerning the acceptability of the SH and its effects.
Methods: A mixed-methods study was conducted in which 133 patients of the intervention group filled in a standardized questionnaire after the intervention.

Background: Nurses working in oncology use a wide range of naturopathic interventions in their daily practice to alleviate symptoms and improve the quality of life of oncological patients. However, there is no external evidence for many of these interventions. Due to a lack of scientific studies in the field, the aim of the project described here is to develop a standardized procedure to generate evidence on naturopathic interventions, on the basis of which recommendations may be derived for nursing practice.

The goal of the HIOPP-3-iTBX Trial was to improve drug safety in nursing-home residents, including a reduction of PIM and/or neu - roleptic use, by means of a complex interprofessional intervention.
Methods: This cluster-randomized, controlled trial was performed in nursing homes in Germany.
Background: This study presents a concept for training general practitioners (GPs) in taking a spiritual history. In the same workshop, medical assistants (MAs) were trained in counselling elderly, chronically ill patients on social activities and home remedies. After the training, GPs and MAs will apply the acquired skills in their practices within the scope of the HoPES3 intervention study, which aims at raising patients' self-efficacy.

Introduction: The cluster-randomized multicenter HIOPP-3 iTBX study ('General Practitioners' Initiative to optimize Medication safety for Nursing Home Residents - using an interprofessional toolbox') aims to improve medication safety in nursing home residents through a complex interprofessional intervention focusing on neuroleptics and potentially inadequate medications. A stepwise recruitment process was used for all study participants (nursing homes, general practitioners, pharmacists, nursing home residents). The aim of this article is to describe the underlying recruitment strategy, the results of the recruitment and the measures undertaken to recruit the necessary number of participants.

Background: Strategies to improve the care of elderly, multimorbid patients frequently focus on implementing evidence-based knowledge by structured assessments and standardization of care. In Germany, disease management programs (DMPs), for example, are run by general practitioners (GPs) for this purpose. While the importance of such measures is undeniable, there is a risk of ignoring other dimensions of care which are essential, especially for elderly patients: their spiritual needs and personal resources, loneliness and social integration, and self-care (i.
