Evaluation of an interprofessional collaborative practice training module for the management of children with autism spectrum disorder.

Background: Protocols instituted for behavioral treatment and skills training programs for the management of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) suffer from lack of collaborative approaches. The tenets of interprofessional collaborative practice (IPCP) focus on preparing a panel of health care professionals (HCPs) from different professions who can work together to enable the common goal of ensuring that children with ASD can participate in society. This study was designed to pilot this approach through an IPCP training module on ASD for care providers from multiple professions.

Background: Osteoporosis, marked by reduced bone density, significantly impacts quality of life. Recent estimates on its economic and humanistic burden in the United States are scarce.

Background/objective: Little is known about the rates of rheumatic disease diagnosis among children during the COVID-19 pandemic. We examined the impact of the pandemic on the diagnosis of juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) in the United States.

Methods: We performed a historical cohort study using US commercial insurance data (2016-2021) to identify children aged <18 years without prior JIA diagnosis or treatment in the prior ≥12 months.

Introduction: Differentiating pheochromocytomas from other adrenal masses based on computed tomography (CT) characteristics remains challenging, particularly in lipid-poor lesions with variable washout patterns. Composite health indicators are valuable tools to assess population health over time and identify areas for intervention. This scoping review (ScR) aimed to map the literature describing comprehensive health-related metrics used to assess community health. The Arksey and O'Malley framework was used to conduct the ScR, using the following steps: identifying the research question, identifying relevant studies, charting the data, collating and reporting results.

One of the practical contributions of epidemiology studies is to inform risk assessment and management to protect public health. However, there is a perception among some that environmental and occupational epidemiology is falling short of satisfying the needs of risk assessors. Evaluating prevalence and consequence of residual disease in individuals with psoriasis receiving apremilast treatment: results from a US patient survey.

This noninterventional, cross-sectional survey estimated the prevalence and consequences of residual disease in apremilast-treated US adults with moderate to severe psoriasis. Residual disease was defined as experiencing moderate, severe, or very severe psoriasis over the past week or having ≥3% body surface area affected, despite treatment. Factors associated with residual disease and its effects on flare-ups, humanistic burden, and health care resource utilization (HCRU) were evaluated.

Delphi consensus statement for understanding and managing the subcostal hernia: subcostal hernias collaborative report (scholar study).

Introduction: Subcostal hernias are categorized as L1 based on the European Hernia Society (EHS) classification and frequently involve M1, M2, and L2 sites. These are common after hepatopancreatic and biliary surgeries. The literature on subcostal hernias mostly comprises of retrospective reviews of small heterogenous cohorts, unsurprisingly leading to no consensus or guidelines.

Real-world treatment of metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer in the USA, Europe and Asia.

To characterize real-world patients with metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer (mHSPC) and treating physicians and evaluate treatment trends and baseline concordance versus guidelines internationally. Retrospective, cross-sectional data from the Ipsos Global Oncology Monitor database 2018-2020 were used for descriptive analysis of mHSPC patients, treating physicians and treatment utilization. Among the 6198 mHSPC patients from five countries, the most common treatment was either androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) monotherapy or first-generation androgen receptor inhibitor + ADT.

Evaluating Treatment Choice in Patients with Moderate to Severe Psoriasis in the United States: Results from a US Patient Survey.

Introduction: While multiple treatments are available for moderate to severe psoriasis, patient preferences are rarely systematically studied. This study aims to identify factors associated with choice of a new once-daily oral psoriasis treatment, elicit patient views on treatment characteristics, and rank treatment characteristics by importance.

Methods: This noninterventional, cross-sectional survey study, conducted from December 2021 to June 2022, recruited US adults with moderate to severe psoriasis.

Leukotriene A4 hydrolase inhibition improves age-related cognitive decline via modulation of synaptic function.

Leukotrienes, a class of inflammatory bioactive lipids, are well studied in the periphery, but less is known of their importance in the brain. We identified that the enzyme leukotriene A4 hydrolase (LTA4H) is expressed in healthy mouse neurons, and inhibition of LTA4H in aged mice improves hippocampal dependent memory. Single-cell nuclear RNA sequencing of hippocampal neurons after inhibition reveals major changes to genes important for synaptic organization, structure, and activity.

Introduction: To mitigate the morbidity associated with open procedures for chronic pancreatitis (CP), there is a paradigm shift towards the laparoscopic approach. However, since these procedures are technically demanding, literature is still limited. We present our experience and long-term outcomes in the management of CP with laparoscopic surgical procedures.

MIS for enucleation of leiomyoma of the oesophagus-strategic approach and experience of 19 cases.

Introduction: Leiomyoma of the oesophagus, although rare, is the most common benign tumour to occur in the organ. Surgical approaches have evolved over time from an open thoracotomy or laparotomy to video-assisted thoracoscopic or laparoscopic and now robotic enucleation. We report a series of 19 cases of leiomyoma of the middle- and lower-third oesophagus treated by minimally invasive surgery.

Scoping Review of Employer-Led Research Using Employee Health Claims Data.

Employers may evaluate employee claims data for various reasons, including assessment of medical insurance and wellness plan efficacy, monitoring employee health trends, and identifying focus areas for wellness measures. The objective of this scoping review (ScR) is to describe the available literature reporting the use, applications, and outcomes of employee health claims data by self-insured employers. The ScR was conducted in a stepwise manner using an established framework: identifying the research question, identifying and selecting relevant studies, charting the data, and collating and reporting results.

Laparoscopic transhiatal stapled closure of spontaneous pleuroesophageal fistula: A case report.

Pleuroesophageal (PE) fistula (PEF) is rare and usually presents secondary to tuberculous mediastinal lymphadenopathy, Boerhaave syndrome, penetrating foreign bodies, erosive oesophagitis, post-mediastinal and gastroesophageal surgeries and neoplasm. We present a case of spontaneous PEF, successfully treated laparoscopically with stapling done through the hiatus.

Background: Peritoneal dialysis is a life sustaining renal replacement therapy for patients with end stage renal disease. In comparison to hemodialysis it offers better mobility and independence to patients. The diagnosis in most cases is intraoperative. The surgical technique is frequently difficult, with an increased risk of intraoperative injuries and conversion to open surgery.

Healthcare Providers' Perceptions and Experiences of Training to Respond to Violence against Women: Results from a Qualitative Study.

Healthcare providers (HCPs) can support women affected by violence, providing a safe way for women to disclose experiences of violence and mitigating violence against women (VAW) through the identification of cases in routine clinical practice. We conducted in-depth interviews and focus group discussions with HCPs in three tertiary facilities in Maharashtra, India, who had participated in training using the World Health Organization curriculum, adapted for the Indian context. n = 21 HCPs participated in in-depth interviews and n = 10 nurses participated in two focus group discussions.
