Rice products are ubiquitous in the diets of American children and are often utilized to thicken feeds as part of treatments for gastroesophageal reflux disease in infants. However, a 2015 Food and Drug Administration investigation demonstrated that they contain unsafe levels of inorganic arsenic. Inorganic arsenic exposure has been linked to serious health issues including skin, lung, and bladder cancer.

Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study using the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (NEISS) to identify emergency department (ED) visits for BPI from 2011-2020 and to estimate prevalence among US individuals ≤24 years of age. Additionally, estimates for infections, requirements for hospitalization/transfer, and exploring significant associations were investigated.
Background: Cancer care coordinators (CCCs) are recognized as having an important role in patients' and carers' cancer journey. However, there are no studies investigating the impact of CCCs on quantitative outcomes. We performed a retrospective cohort study investigating the impact of brain cancer care coordinators (BCCCs) on health service resource use and survival in patients with glioblastoma.

FC results from withholding behaviors that can be worsened by poor toileting posture. The use of a defecation posture modification device (DPMD)-a potty stool-has demonstrated benefit in adults.

Our study aims to test the effectiveness of the Get Healthy Service on objectively measured weight, BMI, waist circumference, and changes in other health behaviours, including nutrition, physical activity and alcohol intake.
Methods: Men and women aged 40-70 years (n = 154) with pre-diabetes (5.
Cyclic vomiting syndrome (CVS) is a disorder of gut-brain interaction which has a wide clinical spectrum. Clinical action plans have been developed to address and to facilitate treatment in the setting of complex, chronic medical conditions. The CVS Action Plan was developed to meet the chronic and acute care needs of children and adults with CVS.

Objective: To identify faith-based leaders' (FBLs') knowledge, perceptions, and questions about syringe services programs (SSPs).
Methods: We conducted a one-time, national online survey of 461 Christian FBLs August-September 2022.
Results: 56% of FBLs agreed they support having SSPs in their communities; only 7% strongly disagreed.

A 2023 product recall has described the risk for morbidity and mortality for children ingesting water beads. We aimed to describe water bead exposure and management trends in the United States. We used the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (NEISS) to identify water bead injuries from 2013 to 2023.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAmyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is an orphan neurodegenerative disease. Immune system dysregulation plays an essential role in ALS onset and progression. Our preclinical studies have shown that the administration of exogenous allogeneic B cells improves outcomes in murine models of skin and brain injury through a process termed pligodraxis, in which B cells adopt an immunoregulatory and neuroprotective phenotype in an injured environment.

This pilot study evaluated immune responses to influenza vaccination in MPN patients compared with healthy donors using mass cytometry and serology. We observed diminished CXCR5+ B-cell, CXCR3+ T-cell, activated CD127+ memory T-cell subsets, and a trend toward lower hemagglutinin inhibition titer in MPN patients.

Medication possession ratio (MPR) is an established metric of medication adherence. A higher MPR correlates with better outcomes in several chronic diseases, but MPR has not been investigated with respect to EoE.

Current prevention methods involve low molecular weight heparin (LMWH), graduated compression stockings (GCS), and intermittent pneumatic compression devices (IPCDs). Australian guidelines, commonly adopted by surgeons, recommend LMWH with GCS and/or IPCDs.

Despite their ubiquity, the optimal skin preparation agent remains uncertain. A retrospective economic analysis was conducted to complement the results from the NEWSkin Prep trial which prospectively compared three preparation agents.

Organized athletics like American football, soccer, and cheerleading all have established epidemiologic trends of injury, including stigmata from head trauma. Despite the potential for mild to severe injury, there is a paucity of data on marching band-related morbidity.

After promising findings from our effectiveness trial, we conducted a state-wide dissemination of the '' (RT4T) intervention from 2015 to 2020. Despite high estimated reach, we found considerable variability in programme delivery and teachers reported numerous barriers to implementation.

While natural infection and vaccination induce humoral and cellular immune responses, the exact nature of cellular immune responses to is incompletely understood. The current study seeks to investigate more deeply the nature of long-term cellular recall responses in naturally exposed individuals by both cytokine release assessment and cytometry profiling.

This study will assess the effectiveness of a multi-strategy sustainability intervention on classroom teachers' sustainment of energisers (short 3-5 min physical activity breaks during class-time) scheduled across the school day from baseline to 12 and 24-month follow-up.
Methods: A cluster randomised controlled trial will be conducted in 50 primary schools within the Hunter New England, Illawarra Shoalhaven, Murrumbidgee and Northern New South Wales (NSW) Local Health Districts of NSW Australia.
Background: Physically Active Children in Education (PACE) is an effective implementation intervention for increasing the number of minutes classroom teachers schedule physical activity each week. To date, evaluations of PACE have included a smaller number of schools from only one region in New South Wales Australia. If PACE is to have population-wide benefits we must be able to deliver this support to a larger number of schools across multiple regions.

GIB in neonates includes a broad spectrum of disease morbidity, from minor reflux symptoms and growth failure to severe, clinically significant anemia requiring critical care resuscitation. Over the last several years, multiple diagnostic tools including fecal calprotectin and bedside ultrasonography have emerged and demonstrated utility in the early recognition of sources for GIB in neonates.

The instrument, High Integrity and Fidelity Implementation for School Renewal, was created using a comprehensive review of the literature to provide insights into the implementation integrity and fidelity when principals renew a school. Data from 1097 teachers were used to examine the instrument for construct validity by means of factorial validity and convergent validity.

The Australian National Preventive Health Strategy 2021-2030 recommended the establishment of evidence-based frameworks to enable local public health services to identify strategies and interventions that deliver value for money. This study aimed to review the cost-effectiveness of preventive health strategies to inform the reorientation of local public health services towards preventive health interventions that are financially sustainable. Four electronic databases were searched for reviews published between 2005 and February 2022.
