Assessment of serum biotin levels and its association with blood glucose in gestational diabetes mellitus.

Aim: The incidence of gestational diabetes mellitus is increasing worldwide. Biotin is shown to improve glycemic status in diabetes mellitus. We wanted to study whether there is a difference in biotin levels between mothers with and without gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), association of biotin with blood glucose, and with the outcome of GDM.

Changing perspectives of infectious causes of maternal mortality.

Objective: Infections significantly contribute to maternal mortality. There is a perceived change in the spectrum of such infections. This study aims to estimate the contribution of various types of infections to maternal mortality.

Maternal mortality and derivations from the WHO near-miss tool: An institutional experience over a decade in Southern India.

Objective: Preceding the use of World Health Organization (WHO) near-miss approach in our institute for the surveillance of Severe Maternal Outcome (SMO), we pilot-tested the tool on maternal death cases that took place over the last 10 years in order to establish its feasibility and usefulness at the institutional level.

Material And Methods: This was a retrospective review of maternal deaths in Christian Medical College Vellore, India, over a decade. Cases were recorded and analyzed using the WHO near-miss tool.
