Metabolic impairments in primary human hepatocytes (PHHs) over time is primarily due to epithelial-to-mesenchymal transitioning (EMT). The immature hepatoma cell line HepG2 was used as an in vitro model to explore strategies for enhancing the hepatic phenotype.
