The Role of Ultrasound in Evaluating the Effect of Urate-lowering Drugs in Gout Patients.

Background: Gout is one of the most common inflammatory arthritis, where identification of MSU crystals in synovial fluid is a widely used diagnostic measure. Ultrasonography has a great sensitivity in detecting signs of MSU deposits, such as tophi and double contour (DC), as mentioned in the latest gout criteria, allowing early clinical diagnosis and therapy.

Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the changes in ultrasound of gout patients' knee and 1st metatarsophalangeal joint (MTP1) after initiation of urate-lowering therapy (ULT) drugs in the six-month period.

Metabolic Syndrome in Behçets Disease Patients: Keep an Eye on the Eye.

Background: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is characterized by insulin resistance, high blood pressure/ sugar, dyslipidemia, and obesity. Whether MetS and its components affect the development of Behçet's Disease (BD) remains unclear.

Aims: The aim was to determine the frequency of MetS among BD patients and to study its relationship with disease characteristics.

Impact of urinary incontinence on physical performance and quality of life (QOL) amongst a group of elderly in Cairo.

Objectives: Urinary incontinence (UI), involuntary loss of urine, is a common disorder affecting the elderly population worldwide. UI can be associated with poor quality of life (QOL) in this vulnerable population, as it limits both physical and social activities of daily living (ADLs). Additionally, it has a psychological and economic burden on individuals, healthcare services and society.

Construct validity and response to therapy of the U9 ultrasonographic scale for assessment of disease activity in rheumatoid arthritis.

Objectives: To test the construct validity of the U9 ultrasonographic scale, to determine the cut-off points for different degrees of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) activity, and to determine whether or not US assessment with the U9 score is useful for monitoring the response to treatment of RA.

Material And Methods: A prospective, multicenter study was conducted in 4 different centers in Egypt. All RA patients who were recruited were subject to evaluation of clinical disease activity by the Clinical Disease Activity Index (CDAI) and Disease Activity Score of 28 joints based on erythrocyte sedimentation rate (DAS28-ESR).

Impact of COVID-19 pandemic on rheumatoid arthritis from a Multi-Centre patient-reported questionnaire survey: influence of gender, rural-urban gap and north-south gradient.

During the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic there were several barriers to treatment access and medication adherence in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients. There is no information regarding the RA patient health status in Egypt during the COVID-19. Thus,the aim of this work was to study the impact of the pandemic on RA patients through a patient-reported questionnaire and to determine the influence of gender, geographic regions.

Vitamin D Deficiency in Egyptian Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Patients: How Prevalent and Does It Impact Disease Activity?

Background: The emerging role of vitamin D in immunology and autoimmune disorders has been a worldwide interest in the last decade. Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients are particularly at a delicate position predisposing them to suffer from vitamin D deficiency due to the multiple risk factors accompanying the disease. Whether vitamin D deficiency is also involved as a risk factor for developing SLE and affecting its course is a considerable concern.
