Young adults consume a plethora of media content, much of which depicts unhealthy sexual and romantic relationships, and research has shown that media exposure can negatively impact health outcomes. Media may function as sex educators for adolescents; unfortunately, media messages often glamorize risky sexual behaviors and unhealthy relationships and neglect sexual health behaviors and communication. Media Aware is a web-based comprehensive sexual health program for high school students that uses a media literacy education approach. Detecting subtle indicators of trustworthiness is highly adaptive for moving effectively amongst social partners. One powerful signal is gaze direction, which individuals can use to inform (or deceive) by looking toward (or away from) important objects or events in the environment. Here, across 5 experiments, we investigate whether implicit learning about gaze cues can influence subsequent economic transactions; we also examine some of the underlying mechanisms.

Three archaeological sites on California's Channel Islands show that Paleoindians relied heavily on marine resources. The Paleocoastal sites, dated between ~12,200 and 11,200 years ago, contain numerous stemmed projectile points and crescents associated with a variety of marine and aquatic faunal remains. At site CA-SRI-512 on Santa Rosa Island, Paleocoastal peoples used such tools to capture geese, cormorants, and other birds, along with marine mammals and finfish.

Purpose: To conduct a phase I study incorporating trastuzumab with paclitaxel, cisplatin, and radiation for adenocarcinoma of the esophagus.

The decision to invest in a medication-safety system should take into account not only implementation costs but also reduced hospital costs for treating complications resulting from medication errors and potential liability. Medication-safety programs should be analyzed and planned the same as any other investment. Providers should base their projected return from a medication-safety system on intangible benefits to the organization as well as an ROI calculation.

Malignant pleural effusions contribute to considerable morbidity in cancer patients and generally portend an overall poor prognosis. Treatment of malignant pleural effusions is palliative; therefore, quality of life issues, as well as the risks and benefits of the therapeutic options, become more critical. In my opinion, factors such as in patient versus outpatient management and associated procedural discomfort are important in the decision-making process, and the patient should participate in these subjective considerations.
