Objective: To evaluate the effects of interdisciplinary pain management on pain-related disability and opioid reduction in polymorbid pain patients with 2 or more comorbid psychiatric conditions.
Design: Two-arm randomized controlled trial testing a 3-week intervention with assessments at pre-treatment, post-treatment, 6-month, and 12-month follow-up.
Setting: Department of Veterans Affairs medical facility.
The gut microbiota has been implicated in chronic pain disorders, including irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), yet specific pathophysiological mechanisms remain unclear. We showed that decreasing intake of fermentable carbohydrates improved abdominal pain in patients with IBS, and this was accompanied by changes in the gut microbiota and decreased urinary histamine concentrations. Here, we used germ-free mice colonized with fecal microbiota from patients with IBS to investigate the role of gut bacteria and the neuroactive mediator histamine in visceral hypersensitivity.

The BCL-2 gene was initially discovered from follicular lymphoma research; however, the BH3 family of proteins has is emerging to be crucial in patients with ALL due to their reliance on the balance of these pro-apoptotic and anti-apoptotic proteins in the BH3 family.
