Biophysical and socioeconomic characterization of Agewmariam experimental watershed in Northern Ethiopia: insights and management options.

Watershed characterization is essential for sustainable watershed management and effective resource utilization, particularly in assessing changes resulting from interventions. This study investigates the biophysical and socio-economic conditions of the Agewmariam watershed, aiming to develop land capability and suitability maps while identifying viable management options. Biophysical data, including land slope, soil properties, erosion severity, stoniness/rockiness cover, and vegetation cover, were collected through field surveys and analyzed using overlay analysis in ArcGIS.

Application of the Modified Universal Soil Loss Equation (MUSLE) for the prediction of sediment yield in Agewmariam experimental watershed, Tekeze River basin, Northern Ethiopia.

The study utilized the Modified Universal Soil Loss Equation (MUSLE) to predict sediment loss and evaluate the model's performance in the Agewmariam experimental watershed in order to support the planning, management, and appropriate use of the soil and water resources in the watershed. The natural resources conservation service (NRCS) curve number method was used to model runoff energy factor. By overlaying maps of runoff energy, soil erodibility, slope length and steepness, cover management, and support practice factors with assigned values, the cumulative effect of these parameters for the suspended sediment yield was calculated using the ArcGIS raster calculator.

Novel collector design and optimized photo-fenton model for sustainable industry textile wastewater treatment.

Textile industry wastewater containing toxic dyes and high COD poses environmental hazards and requires treatment before discharge. This study addresses the challenge of treating complex textile wastewater using a novel integrated system. The system combines sedimentation, screening, adsorption, and an optimized solar photo-Fenton process to provide a sustainable treatment solution.

Effect of ridging and tie-ridging time on yield and yield component of sorghum in Northern Ethiopia.

Soil moisture stress and low soil fertility are the main constraints to sorghum production in the semi-arid region of northern Ethiopia. A field experiment was conducted in Lasta and Sekota Woreda of Amhara Region, eastern Ethiopia, to evaluate the effect of ridge and tie ridge time on the yield and yield component of sorghum (Sorghum bicolor). The experiment consisted of eight treatments of ridging time & time of tie (Tie-ridging at planting, Ridge at planting tying 2 Weeks After Planting, Ridge at planting tying 4 Weeks After Planting, Tie-ridging 3 Weeks After Planting, Ridging 2 Weeks After planting & tying 4 Weeks After Planting, Ridge 3 Weeks After Planting & tying 6 Weeks After Planting, Tie-ridging 6 Weeks After Planting); including Shilshalo as a control farmer practice which was arranged in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replication.

Epidemiological studies showed the association between air pollution and dementia. A soluble fraction of particulate matters including polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) is suspected to be involved with the adverse effects of air pollution on the central nervous system of humans. It is also reported that exposure to benzopyrene (B[a]P), which is one of the PAHs, caused deterioration of neurobehavioral performance in workers.

Background: Achilles' tendon injury affect 31.17 per 100,000 yearly, it has a major impact on quality of life of affected patients, mostly active young individuals. Different management options exist ranging from conservative treatment, to operative repair either open or percutaneous repair.

Dengue hemophagocytic syndrome: A systematic review and meta-analysis on epidemiology, clinical signs, outcomes, and risk factors.

We systematically searched and meta-analyzed the epidemiological characteristics, frequency of clinical signs, and outcomes of dengue-associated hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis. Ten electronic databases were searched systematically plus manual search of reference lists to identify relevant articles published until May 2017. The highest number of reported cases were from South-East Asia region (62 cases), followed by Western Pacific region (20 cases), and America (31 cases).

Statins and their role in acute pancreatitis: Case report and literature review.

Statin induced pancreatitis has historically been considered a diagnosis of exclusion, with literature references typically in the form of case reports and observational studies. Recently, larger studies have challenged the correlations made by earlier case reports, and instead demonstrate a mild protective effect in statin users. We present a case report of likely statin induced pancreatitis in a 58-year-old male (which we have attributed to drug-drug interaction with resulting inhibition of hepatic cytochrome P450 enzymes) and have reviewed the apparent dichotomy in the available literature.
