Background: The nucleoprotein (N protein) of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a candidate antigen for new RSV vaccine development. The aim of the present study was to investigate the association between maternal antibody titers against the RSV N protein at birth and the newborns' risk of developing very severe lower respiratory tract infection (VS-LRTI).
Methods: In this single-center prospective cohort study, 578 infants born during the RSV epidemic season in France were included.
Recent studies have shown that bacterial nucleoid-associated proteins (NAPs) can bind to DNA and result in altered structural organization and bridging interactions. Under spontaneous self-assembly, NAPs may also form anisotropic amyloid fibers, whose effects are still more significant on DNA dynamics. To test this hypothesis, microrheology experiments on dispersions of DNA associated with the amyloid terminal domain (CTR) of the bacterial protein Hfq were performed using magnetic rotational spectroscopy (MRS).

Methods: Contacts were investigated following a concentric circles approach and followed-up according to their level of priority. In those with evidence of latent TB infection, treatment decision was based on the level of exposure, individual vulnerability, as well as the results of an interferon-gamma release assay.
Skin disorders are frequent in travellers, but data vary between different studies. The objectives of the current study were to describe imported dermatoses in the Bordeaux GeoSentinel prospective database between August 2015 and March 2018. During the study period, 1025 travellers were seen in the clinic, 201 of them with dermatoses.

Different treatments have been proposed, but many of them are not achievable in outpatient consultation.
Methods: We reported three typical cases of furuncular myiasis, according to each species involved, and proposed diagnostic and therapeutic guidelines for dermatologists in outpatient consultation.
Viscoelastic liquids are characterized by a finite static viscosity and a yield stress of zero, whereas soft solids have an infinite viscosity and a non-zero yield stress. The rheological nature of viscoelastic materials has long been a challenge and is still a matter of debate. Here, we provide for the first time the constitutive equations of linear viscoelasticity for magnetic wires in yield-stress materials, together with experimental measurements by using magnetic rotational spectroscopy (MRS).

Methods: We carried out two evaluations within a 1-year interval with inmates incarcerated for 6 to 12 months. A monitoring process was introduced in-between the two evaluations.

Unlabelled: The lack of clinical practice recommendations for the care of the Unaccompanied Refugee Minors (URM) causes significant disparities depending on which department they arrive. By studying their global health we're willing to promote a standard of care for them.
Methods: Data descriptive study from a systematic medical procedure proposed to URM who came in Gironde between January, 2011 and December, 2013.
We studied the dynamics of a liquid contact line receding on a hydrophobic soft gel (SBS-paraffin). In order to realize a well-defined geometry with an accurate control of velocity, a dip-coating setup was implemented. Provided that the elastic modulus is small enough, a significant deformation takes place near the contact line, which in turn drastically influences the wetting behaviour.

Among the complicating forms, hemophagocytic syndrome (HPS) has been previously reported in case series of patients with secondary dengue fever outside of endemic settings. Of note, the occurrence of HPS has not yet been included among the criteria for defining severe dengue fever.

Our aim was to investigate the factors associated with imported malaria that would favour the hypothesis of a 'long-term' semi-immunity to malaria in adult travellers of sub-Saharan origin living in France and visiting family or relatives in their country of origin (VFR group).
Method: The epidemiological, clinical and biological characteristics of imported Plasmodium falciparum malaria in VFR were compared with those of travellers of European origin (TEO).
Background: Chloroquine (CQ) was the main malaria therapy worldwide from the 1940s until the 1990s. Following the emergence of CQ-resistant Plasmodium falciparum, most African countries discontinued the use of CQ, and now promote artemisinin-based combination therapy as the first-line treatment. This change was generally initiated during the last decade in West and Central Africa.

However, few data describing YF vaccination in such patients are available.
Methods: In this retrospective observational study of 23 HIV-infected patients, YF antibody titers, CD4 cell counts, and viral loads were measured before and after vaccination.
Mayaro virus (MAYV) disease is a mosquito-borne zoonosis endemic in humid forests of tropical South America. MAYV is closely related to other alphaviruses that produce a dengue-like illness accompanied by long-lasting arthralgia. A French tourist developed high-grade fever and severe joint manifestations following a 15-day trip in the Amazon basin, Brazil, and was diagnosed with MAYV infection in January 2010.

The objective of the present study was to describe the epidemiological and clinical features of imported malaria in adults attending the University Hospital Center (UHC) ofBordeaux and to compare these findings with the French national epidemiological data. A retrospective analysis of all patients aged over 15 years with parasitologically confirmed malaria in patients recruited between January 1, 2000 and December 31, 2007 has been performed.

Clinical quinine failure was associated with a 50% inhibitory concentration of 829 nmol/L. Increased vigilance is required during treatment follow-up.
