Regulatory authorities recommend using residence time distribution (RTD) to address material traceability in continuous manufacturing. Continuous virus filtration is an essential but poorly understood step in biologics manufacturing in respect to fluid dynamics and scale-up. Here we describe a model that considers nonideal mixing and film resistance for RTD prediction in continuous virus filtration, and its experimental validation using the inert tracer NaNO.

Continuous precipitation coupled with continuous tangential flow filtration is a cost-effective alternative for the capture of recombinant antibodies from crude cell culture supernatant. The removal of surge tanks between unit operations, by the adoption of tubular reactors, maintains a continuous harvest and mass flow of product with the advantage of a narrow residence time distribution (RTD). We developed a continuous process implementing two orthogonal precipitation methods, CaCl precipitation for removal of host-cell DNA and polyethylene glycol (PEG) for capturing the recombinant antibody, with no influence on the glycosylation profile.

Purpose: Single-use surgical instruments were recently introduced to improve OR efficiency and reduce infection risks. This study aimed to investigate clinical results 1 year after instrumented lumbar fusion, with the aid of single-use surgical instruments, with particular attention to surgical site infection and Oswestry Disability Index (ODI).

Method: This prospective bi-centric study included 21 men and 28 women, aged 61.

Although a commonly used technique, percutaneous pinning of phalangeal fractures is tricky because of the difficulties associated with getting the correction pin orientation when entering the medullary canal of one fragment from the outer cortex of the other fragment. This has led us to develop the "in-out-in" pinning technique. The principle consists of entering the medullary canal of one of the fragments directly from the fracture site.

Introduction: Eosinophilic fasciitis (EF) is a rare inflammatory and fibrosing disorder with clinical, biological and histological characteristics. It has sometimes been reported with hematologic malignancy, but has never been associated with malignant uveal melanoma.

Case Report: A 67-year-old woman with choroidal melanoma was found to have metastatic skeletal extension of her melanoma while she developed swelling and pain in the lower limbs.

We report the first case of a scalp pseudomycetoma due to Trichophyton schoenleinii in a 15-year-old girl from Senegal. The lesion was not associated with tinea capitis. Long-term antifungal therapy with itraconazole and terbinafine was unsuccessful but a favourable outcome was obtained after surgical removal of the lesion.
