Lower leg ulcers have a high in incidence in general population and are associated with a significant morbidity rate. Wide differential diagnosis considering their etiology poses considerable problem, as the causes are diverse including metabolic, immune, oncologic, vascular and mixed ones. Approach to treatment should be multidisciplinary, and among various medical specialties surgery plays an important role.

Skin and nipple-areola complex sparing mastectomy in breast cancer patients: 15-year experience.

Skin and nipple-areola complex sparing mastectomy (SNSM) and primary reconstruction have been popular for breast cancer treatment in the last decade. An advantage of the SNSM technique is the removal of all breast tissue as a radical surgical procedure while preserving native breast integrity, nipple-areola complex (NAC), and submammary fold. This retrospective 15-year clinical study analyzes medical records from our breast surgery database collected at our department between 1997 and 2012.

Immediate breast reconstruction in relation to women's age.

A modern approach to breast cancer treatment after mastectomy includes immediate breast reconstruction (performed simultaneously with the mastectomy). The understanding of factors that influence women's decisions and appreciation of their satisfaction is as important as the knowledge of medical efficiency of the selected treatment. The influence of women's age on opinion making for immediate breast reconstruction was researched in a monocentric prospective study (N = 102).

Effect of carotid sinus nerve blockade on hemodynamic stability during carotid endarterectomy under local anesthesia.

Objective: To find out whether routine carotid sinus nerve blockade with lidocaine during carotid endarterectomy under local anesthesia results in perioperative changes in blood pressure and heart rate.

Methods: This was a prospective, randomized, single-center study, conducted in a university hospital. A total of 120 patients undergoing carotid endarterectomy under local anesthesia were randomly assigned to three equal groups.
