Scholarship of Drug Information and Library Sciences Instruction in North American Pharmacy Education: A Systematic Review of English-Language Research.

Objectives: This study aimed to characterize the scholarship of teaching and learning specific to drug information and library sciences (DILS) in pharmacy education and provide a comprehensive, evidence-based resource for faculty, detailing published practices for content delivery and scholarly research gaps.

Findings: Systematic searches of PubMed, Embase, International Pharmaceutical Abstracts, Educational Resources Information Center, Scopus, Library Literature & Information Science Full Text, and Library, Information Science & Technology Abstracts were conducted from January 1997 through early February 2022. Included studies were published in English, involved DILS content, were specific to pharmacy education, were original research, and were conducted in North America.

Teaching motivational interviewing in a blended learning environment.

Background And Purpose: To describe the implementation of blended learning in teaching motivational interviewing (MI) to third-year pharmacy students and evaluate changes in MI knowledge by assessing students' abilities to recognize and formulate responses using MI skills after the training and, for a subset of students, one year later.

Educational Activity And Setting: The comMIt e-learning program was integrated into a third-year pharmacy communication course. Skills learned in the program were applied and assessed using e-learning quizzes, three in-class practice sessions and a 5-minute final assessment video.

Trends in women's authorship in pharmacy literature.

Objectives: The purpose of this evaluation was to determine whether the percentage of women as first authors in pharmacy journals has continued to increase over the past decade.

Methods: Key pharmacy practice journals were identified from the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy Core List of Journals for Pharmacy Education. Articles were analyzed from January 2007 through December 2017.

Survey of faculty workload and operational characteristics for academic drug information centers.

Introduction: A survey of drug information specialists from academic drug information centers in the United States was conducted to identify faculty workload, operational characteristics of the center, and contribution of those faculty and centers to pharmacy education.

Methods: A 32-item survey was administered to drug information specialists and pharmacy college/school deans. Faculty workload items included age, credentials, training, and responsibilities.

Role of Topical Oxymetazoline for Management of Erythematotelangiectatic Rosacea.

Objective: To review and summarize topical oxymetazoline's pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, efficacy, safety, cost, and place in therapy for persistent redness associated with erythematotelangiectatic rosacea.

Data Sources: Literature searches of MEDLINE (1975 to September 2017), International Pharmaceutical Abstracts (1975 to September 2017), and Cochrane Database (publications through September 2017) using the terms rosacea, persistent redness, α -agonist, and oxymetazoline.

Study Selection And Data Extraction: Results were limited to studies of human subjects, English-language publications, and topical use of oxymetazoline.

Association Between Vitamin D Levels During Pregnancy and Postpartum Depression.

To evaluate evidence regarding 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OD)D) levels during pregnancy and its association with postpartum depression (PPD). Primary literature was accessed through MEDLINE, Google Scholar, and International Pharmaceutical Abstracts searches through January 2015. Data from published trials were retrieved for analysis using the following search terms: vitamin D, 25-hydroxyvitamin D, 25(OH)D, postpartum, pregnancy, and depression.

Association Between Prenatal Acetaminophen Exposure and Future Risk of Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder in Children.

Study Selection And Data Extraction: Studies comparing self-reported maternal acetaminophen use during pregnancy to development of ADHD or ADHD-like behaviors in offspring between the ages of 3 and 12 years.

Effect of inhaled corticosteroids on long-term growth in pediatric patients with asthma and allergic rhinitis.

Objective: To evaluate the effect of orally and nasally inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) on final adult height in pediatric patients with mild to moderate persistent asthma and allergic rhinitis.

Data Sources: MEDLINE (1975-April 2013), Cochrane Library (through 2012), and International Pharmaceutical Abstracts (1975-April 2013) were searched for prospective clinical trials assessing the effects of orally or intranasally ICS use on growth in pediatric patients with asthma or allergic rhinitis using the terms inhaled/intranasal corticosteroid, linear growth, height, and asthma or allergic rhinitis.

Study Selection And Data Extraction: Eligible articles included double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled studies of at least 1 year with growth velocity or height as the primary outcome.
