Inpatient psychiatric services for children and adolescents face high levels of trauma, and the TIOA tool is designed to guide trauma-informed care implementation but is underutilized in these settings.
This quality improvement project aims to describe trauma-informed care application, examine connections between care domains, and identify barriers and facilitators in inpatient environments.
Survey results showed that trauma-informed practices were rarely to sometimes implemented; qualitative interviews revealed challenges in applying trauma-informed care and highlighted strategies to overcome these issues.
