Prostate cancer (PCa) is the most common cancer in men. Prostate-specific antigen screening is recommended for the detection of PCa. However, its specificity is limited.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFCirculating tumor cells (CTCs) have been studied using multiple technical approaches for interrogating various cancers, as they allow for the real-time assessment of tumor progression, disease recurrence, treatment response, and tumor molecular profiling without the need for a tumor tissue biopsy. Here, we will review studies from the last 15 years on the assessment of CTCs in cutaneous melanoma patients in relation to different clinical outcomes. The focus will be on CTC detection in blood samples obtained from cutaneous melanoma patients of different clinical stages and treatments utilizing multiple platforms.

This regulatory mechanism is critical to maintain cell homeostasis and specific functions. Aberrant expression of miRs have been associated with pathobiological processes including cancer.

Often, LDH levels do not provide real-time information about the metastatic melanoma patients' disease status and treatment response. Therefore, there is a need to find reliable blood biomarkers for improved monitoring of metastatic melanoma patients who are undergoing checkpoint inhibitor immunotherapy (CII).

Identification of cell-free microRNAs (cfmiRs) found in the blood can be used as potential body fluid biomarkers for detecting and monitoring patients with melanoma brain metastasis (MBM). In this pilot study, we initially aimed to identify cfmiRs in the blood of MBM patients.

The synthesis of insulin is controlled by several transcription factors including PDX-1, USF1 and USF2. Both, PDX-1 and USF1 were identified as substrates for protein kinase CK2.

Formal strategies for recruiting the male partners of pregnant women have not been explored within an Option B+ programme. Our objective was to learn about experiences surrounding CHTC recruitment within a formal CHTC recruitment study.

Background: Immunoglobulin E (IgE) deficiency (<2.5 kU/L) has unclear clinical significance. Very little is known about the clinical characteristics of IgE deficiency in patients with Common Variable Immunodeficiency (CVID).
View Article and Find Full Text PDFApoptosis and the response to cell stress are evolutionary highly conserved mechanisms. Both processes require strict regulation, which is often performed by protein kinases. The mammalian Sterile 20-like kinase 1 (MST1) is a pro-apoptotic protein kinase, which is activated and cleaved by caspases upon the induction of cell stress.

Although imaging of large amounts of accumulated Mn(II) is possible by MRI, quantitative measurement of the biodistribution of manganese, particularly at the trace level, can be challenging. In this study, we produced the positron-emitting radionuclide 52Mn (t1/2 = 5.

Methods: NT-proBNP was measured in stored serum collected at baseline from participants enrolled in Warfarin-Aspirin Recurrent Stroke Study, a previously reported randomized trial. Relative effectiveness of warfarin and aspirin in preventing recurrent ischemic stroke or death over 2 years was compared based on NT-proBNP concentrations.
A novel series of non-nucleoside HCV NS5B polymerase inhibitors was prepared from a (2Z)-2-benzoylamino-3-(4-phenoxy-phenyl)-acrylic acid template. Solution and solid phase analog synthesis focused on the northern region of the template combined with structure based design led to the discovery of several potent and orally bioavailable lead compounds.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA novel series of nonnucleoside HCV NS5B polymerase inhibitors were prepared from (2Z)-2-(benzoylamino)-3-(5-phenyl-2-furyl)acrylic acid, a high throughput screening lead. SAR studies combined with structure based drug design focusing on the southern heterobiaryl region of the template led to the synthesis of several potent and orally bioavailable lead compounds. X-ray crystallography studies were also performed to understand the interaction of these inhibitors with HCV NS5B polymerase.
