Article Synopsis
  • - Influenza vaccination is linked to lower rates of cardiovascular issues and overall mortality, but the role of related immunoglobulins isn't fully understood.
  • - A specific immunoglobulin heavy chain junction sequence (SD6) was found to inhibit plasma kallikrein activity, potentially reducing thromboinflammatory responses and stroke damage.
  • - In tests on mice, SD6 decreased thrombosis and cerebral injury without increasing bleeding risk, indicating its promise as a treatment for conditions related to blood inflammation.

Article Synopsis
  • Thrombosis and inflammation play key roles in ischemic stroke, and targeting the contact-kinin pathway offers new therapeutic opportunities.
  • A bat-derived oligopeptide, LE6, shows promise in stroke therapy by inhibiting important factors involved in clotting (PK and FXIIa) and reducing inflammation.
  • LE6 has demonstrated effective anti-thrombotic and anti-inflammatory effects in various animal models, with low toxicity, making it a potential candidate for clinical use in stroke treatment.

The recalcitrance of pathogens to traditional antibiotics has made treating and eradicating bacterial infections more difficult. In this regard, developing new antimicrobial agents to combat antibiotic-resistant strains has become a top priority. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs), a ubiquitous class of naturally occurring compounds with broad-spectrum antipathogenic activity, hold significant promise as an effective solution to the current antimicrobial resistance (AMR) crisis.

The Asian elephant () is a flagship species of tropical rainforests, and it has generated much concern. In this case, the gut bacterial communities of captive and wild Asian elephants are particularly noteworthy. We aim to compare the differences in bacterial diversity and antibiotic resistance gene (ARG) subtypes in fecal samples of Asian elephants from different habitats, which may affect host health.
