Article Synopsis
  • - The study examined the link between severe periodontitis (a severe gum disease) and body weight categories (obese, overweight, and normal weight) in a sample of 236 adults.
  • - Results indicated that severe periodontitis was significantly more common in obese individuals, with an odds ratio of 3.25, suggesting that obesity increases the risk of this gum disease; however, no significant association was found between periodontitis and overweight individuals.
  • - The authors recommend that obese patients receive periodontal evaluations due to the identified risk, highlighting the importance of monitoring oral health in relation to obesity.
