Background: Weight gain after initiation of combination antiretroviral therapy (cART) is a possible side effect of all antiretroviral regimens, but it seems to be more evident in association with integrase strand transfer inhibitors (INSTIs). So, we aimed to evaluate weight change associated with an initial cART including one INSTI or darunavir-ritonavir (DRV/r).
Methods: A retrospective, observational, cohort study of antiretroviral therapy-naive adult HIV-positive patients starting an initial cART including raltegravir (RAL), dolutegravir (DTG), elvitegravir-cobicistat (EVG), or DRV/r.

Chemotherapy is the reference treatment for patients with advanced urothelial carcinoma, both in the neo-adjuvant and adjuvant settings; however, the overall outcome remains poor in this patient population. In the last few years, the addition of immune checkpoint inhibitors into the therapeutic armamentarium has changed the therapeutic landscape of several tumor types, including urothelial carcinoma. Many different molecules have been introduced on the market and several questions about immunotherapies are currently open and deserve a critical analysis.

(CT) and (NG) represent the most common agents of sexually transmitted rectal infections among men having sex with other men (MSM). In this study, we assessed the bacterial composition of the rectal microbiota associated with CT and/or NG infections in a cohort of men reporting unsafe rectal intercourse. A total of 125 rectal swabs were collected and four groups were compared: non-infected subjects ( = 53), patients with CT ( = 37), or NG rectal infection ( = 17) and patients with contemporary positivity for CT/NG ( = 18).

Here we propose a culture-based protocol for rectal swab CPE screening that combines CPE detection with identification of the carbapenemase type.
Methods: The workflow integrates an automatic digital analysis of selective chromogenic media (WASPLab®; Copan), with subsequent rapid tests for the confirmation of carbapenemase production [i.
In 2017, a chikungunya outbreak in central Italy later evolved into a secondary cluster in southern Italy, providing evidence of disease emergence in new areas. Officials have taken action to raise awareness among clinicians and the general population, increase timely case detection, reduce mosquito breeding sites, and promote mosquito bite prevention.

The congress addressed the research progress and clinical implementation in pharmacogenomics and personalized medicine. The Fourth European Society of Pharmacogenomics and Personalized Therapy congress brought together leading international scientists and healthcare professionals actively working in the fields of pharmacogenomics and personalized therapy.

However, it remains largely unknown whether and how these mutations may contribute to lymphomagenesis, either individually or in combination. Existing strategies to address this problem predominantly utilize cell lines, which are limited by their initial characteristics and subsequent adaptions to prolonged in vitro culture.

We evaluated the percentage of asymptomatic Leishmania infection in the Bologna province, northeastern Italy.
Methods: We examined the presence of specific antibodies by Western Blot (WB) and parasitic DNA by real time PCR in peripheral blood of 240 blood donors residing in the Bologna province.
Purpose: To investigate the association between single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) and interleukin-8 (IL-8) genes and risk of developing bevacizumab-related adverse events in metastatic breast cancer (mBC) patients.
Patients And Methods: mBC patients candidate to receive bevacizumab-based chemotherapy were enrolled in this pharmacogenetic study. eNOS c.
Liquid biopsy has emerged as an alternative source of nucleic acids for the management of Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor ()-mutant non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC). The use of circulating cell-free DNA (cfDNA) has been recently introduced in clinical practice, resulting in the improvement of the identification of druggable mutations for the diagnosis and monitoring of response to targeted therapy. -dependent (T790M and C797S mutations) and independent (Mesenchymal Epithelial Transition [] gene amplification, Kirsten Rat Sarcoma [], Phosphatidyl-Inositol 4,5-bisphosphate 3-Kinase Catalytic subunit Alpha isoform [], and RAF murine sarcoma viral oncogene homolog B1 [] gene mutations) mechanisms of resistance to EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) have been evaluated in plasma samples from NSCLC patients using highly sensitive methods (i.

This is a multicenter retrospective study comparing a population of 226 children to 521 adults with pulmonary or extrapulmonary TB. The aim was to evaluate the QFT-IT performance, analyzing both qualitative and quantitative results, according to age, birthplace, and disease localization.

Current Literature about HA and its cross-linked derivatives has been examined. HA is superior in increasing the viscosity and stability of the tear film compared with other tear supplements such as polyvinyl alcohol, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, carboximethyl cellulose and polyethylene glycol.

However, a better knowledge of predictive biomarkers of response and resistance to CDK4/6i is needed. Therefore, the present article addresses the role of the mRNA expression of thymidine kinase 1 (TK1), CDK4, 6 and 9 in plasma-derived exosomes and their relevance in the pharmacologic activity of CDK4/6i.

The development of an effective amphotericin B (AmB) topical formulation to replace the systemically toxic injections currently used in cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) treatment is challenging due to poor absorption through the skin. Aiming at an effective local chemotherapy, we designed PLGA (poly(lactide-co-glycolide acid) microparticles loaded with deoxycholate amphotericin B (d-AmB) for both macrophage intracellular targeting and sustained extracellular release. For that, d-AmB/PLGA microparticles with sizes ranging from 0.

Aim: Punctate white matter lesions (PWML) are frequently detected in preterm infants undergoing brain MRI at term equivalent age (TEA). The aims of this study were to assess prevalence of PWML and to identify risk factors for PWML in VLBW infants.
Methods: Brain MRI scans obtained at TEA and clinical charts of a consecutive sample of very low birth weight (VLBW) infants admitted to Gaslini Children's Hospital NICU between 2012 and 2016 were retrospectively analyzed.
The aim of our study was to assess risk factors associated with vitamin D deficiency among HIV-1-infected patients on combination antiretroviral therapy (cART). A retrospective, case-control study was conducted to assess risk factors associated with vitamin D deficiency among HIV-1-infected adults on stable cART. Vitamin D deficiency was defined as 25-OH vitamin D concentration <30 ng/mL.

Understanding the mechanisms of resistance to Trastuzumab could be a useful tool in order to identify combinations of drugs that elude resistance and allow a better response for the treated patients. Twelve primary biopsies of Her2+/hormone receptor negative (ER-/PgR-) breast cancer patients were selected based on the specific response to neoadjuvant therapy with Trastuzumab and their whole exome was sequenced leading to the identification of 18 informative gene mutations that discriminate patients selectively based on response to treatment.

We compared bactericidal titres from sera collected from critically ill patients receiving meropenem plus tigecycline (n = 5), meropenem plus colistin (n = 5), or meropenem, colistin and tigecycline (n = 5) against K. pneumoniae isolates that included ESBL-producing (n = 7) and KPC-producing strains (n = 14) with varying sensitivity patterns to colistin and tigecycline.
