Aza-fused aromatic π-conjugated networks are an important class of 2D graphitic analogs, which are generally constructed using aromatic precursors. Herein, the study describes a new synthetic approach and electrochemical properties of a self-exfoliating benzotristriazine 2D network (BTTN) constructed using aliphatic precursors, under relatively mild conditions. The obtained BTTN exhibits a nanodisc-like morphology, the self-exfoliation tendency of which is ascribed to the presence of structurally different macrocycles with high electronic repulsion between the layers.

Imidacloprid (IMI) is a systemic insecticide, which is widely used for seed treatment and pest control in vegetables. The unwarranted presence of traces of IMI in vegetables and groundwater is a matter of grave concern which needs to be detected and quantified in order to effect remedial measures for the sake of food safety. In this work, we communicate the fabrication of tungsten sulfide (WS) nanosheets and the construction of an amperometric sensor for the precise determination of IMI.

Volumetric capacitance is a more critical performance parameter for rechargeable power supply in lightweight and microelectronic devices as compared to gravimetric capacitance in larger devices. To this end, we report three electrochromic metallopolymer-based electrode materials containing Fe as the coordinating metal ion with high volumetric capacitance and energy densities in a symmetric two-electrode supercapacitor setup. These metallopolymers exhibited volumetric capacitance up to 866.

Metal oxide dispersed graphitic carbon nitride hybrid nanocomposites (g-CN/CuO and g-CN/CoO) were prepared a direct precipitation method. The materials were used as an electrode material in symmetric supercapacitors. The g-CN/CoO electrode based device exhibited a specific capacitance of 201 F g which is substantially higher than those using g-CN/CuO (95 F g) and bare g-CN electrodes (72 F g).

MXene/graphite composite paste electrode (MXene/GCPE)-based electrochemical sensor has been fabricated for the detection of adrenaline. The electrode exhibits a sensitive response to adrenaline in phosphate buffer solution of pH 7.4, and its catalytic activity is much higher than that of the bare graphite paste electrode.

Symmetrical electrochemical capacitors are attracting immense attention because of their fast charging-discharging ability, high energy density, and low cost of production. The current research in this area is mainly focused on exploring novel low-cost electrode materials with higher energy and power densities. In the present work, we fabricated an electrochemical double-layer capacitor using methylammonium bismuth iodide (CHNH)BiI, a lead-free, zero-dimensional hybrid perovskite material.

A biosensor platform based on Au/MXene nanocomposite for sensitive enzymatic glucose detection is reported. The biosensor leverages the unique electrocatalytic properties and synergistic effects between Au nanoparticles and MXene sheets. An amperometric glucose biosensor is fabricated by the immobilization of glucose oxidase (GOx) enzyme on Nafion solubilized Au/ MXene nanocomposite over glassy carbon electrode (GCE).

Transition-metal carbides (MXenes) are an emerging class of two-dimensional materials with promising electrochemical energy storage performance. Herein, for the first time, by direct chemical synthesis, nanocrystalline ε-MnO2 whiskers were formed on MXene nanosheet surfaces (ε-MnO2/Ti2CTx and ε-MnO2/Ti3C2Tx) to make nanocomposite electrodes for aqueous pseudocapacitors. The ε-MnO2 nanowhiskers increase the surface area of the composite electrode and enhance the specific capacitance by nearly 3 orders of magnitude compared to that of pure MXene-based symmetric supercapacitors.

Mesoporous cobalt oxide (Co3O4) nanosheet electrode arrays are directly grown over flexible carbon paper substrates using an economical and scalable two-step process for supercapacitor applications. The interconnected nanosheet arrays form a three-dimensional network with exceptional supercapacitor performance in standard two electrode configuration. Dramatic improvement in the rate capacity of the Co3O4 nanosheets is achieved by electrodeposition of nanocrystalline, hydrous RuO2 nanoparticles dispersed on the Co3O4 nanosheets.

We show, for the first time, a redox-active electrolyte in combination with a polyaniline-coated curved graphene active material to achieve significant enhancement in the capacitance (36-92% increase) compared to supercapacitors that lack the redox-active contribution from the electrolyte. The supercapacitors based on the redox-active electrolyte also exhibit excellent rate capability and very long cycling performance (>50,000 cycles).

Article Synopsis
  • Nanomaterials, particularly multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNT), play a crucial role in the electron sources used in flat panel displays, with specific focus on their improved field emission properties through surface modification.
  • Cerium oxide (CeO2) nanoparticles were successfully integrated with MWNT using catalytic chemical vapor deposition, and their structural characteristics were confirmed through various analytical techniques like XRD and TGA.
  • The study found that the CeO2/MWNT composite exhibited a lower turn-on voltage and higher emission current density compared to pure MWNT, highlighting the enhanced performance of the modified structure for electronic applications.

A scheme of current collector dependent self-organization of mesoporous cobalt oxide nanowires has been used to create unique supercapacitor electrodes, with each nanowire making direct contact with the current collector. The fabricated electrodes offer the desired properties of macroporosity to allow facile electrolyte flow, thereby reducing device resistance and nanoporosity with large surface area to allow faster reaction kinetics. Co(3)O(4) nanowires grown on carbon fiber paper collectors self-organize into a brush-like morphology with the nanowires completely surrounding the carbon microfiber cores.

Nickel oxide and mixed-metal oxide structures were fabricated by using microwave irradiation in pure water. The nickel oxide self-assembled into unique rose-shaped nanostructures. These nickel oxide roses were studied by performing electron tomography with virtual cross-sections through the particles to understand their morphology from their interior to their surface.

A simple and scalable method has been developed to fabricate nanostructured MnO2-carbon nanotube (CNT)-sponge hybrid electrodes. A novel supercapacitor, henceforth referred to as "sponge supercapacitor", has been fabricated using these hybrid electrodes with remarkable performance. A specific capacitance of 1,230 F/g (based on the mass of MnO2) can be reached.

A new amperometric biosensor, based on deposition of glucose oxidase (GOD) onto crystalline gold (Au) nanoparticle modified multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWNT) electrode, is presented. MWNTs have been synthesized by catalytic chemical vapor decomposition of acetylene over rare-earth-based AB2 (DyNi2) alloy hydride catalyst. Purified MWNTs have been decorated with nanocrystalline Au metal clusters using a simple chemical reduction method.

Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNT) have been synthesized by chemical vapour decomposition (CVD) of acetylene over Rare Earth (RE) based AB2(DyNi2) alloy hydride catalyst. The as-grown carbon nanotubes were purified by acid and heat treatments and characterized using powder X-ray diffraction, Scanning Electron Microscopy, Transmission Electron Microscopy, Thermo Gravimetric Analysis and Raman Spectroscopy. Fully carbon based field emitters have been fabricated by spin coating a solutions of both as-grown and purified MWNT and dichloro ethane (DCE) over carbon paper with and without graphitized layer.
