Objective: Dysregulation of lipid and carbohydrate/fatty acid (FA) balance in Sertoli and germ cells alters the NADP+/ NADPH ratio, resulting in metabolic autophagy in testicles. Tramadol (TRA) adversely affects spermatogenesis development, and it is not reversed within short periods of time after withdrawal. Therefore, the present study aimed to examine the boosting effect of different exercise training protocols (ETPs) on TRA-induced detrimental effects after withdrawal.

One of the key events in autophagy is the formation of a double-membrane phagophore, and many regulatory mechanisms underpinning this remain under investigation. WIPI2b is among the first proteins to be recruited to the phagophore and is essential for stimulating autophagy flux by recruiting the ATG12-ATG5-ATG16L1 complex, driving LC3 and GABARAP lipidation. Here, we set out to investigate how WIPI2b function is regulated by phosphorylation.

Purpose: A personalized model of the knee joint, with adjustable effective geometric parameters for the transplanted autograft diameter in Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction (ACLR) using the bone-patella-tendon-bone (BPTB) technique, has been developed. The model will assist researchers in understanding how different graft sizes impact a patient's recovery over time.

Methods: The study involved selecting a group of individuals without knee injuries and one patient who had undergone knee surgery.

Article Synopsis
  • Varicocele has been shown to cause infertility, prompting a study on its effects on DNA methylation and damage in male germ cells and spermatozoa from different sources (TESE and epididymis).
  • In male rats with induced varicocele, researchers noted decreased expression of key DNA methylation regulators (DNMT1, TET1, 2, 3) in testicular and sperm samples, affecting DNA stability and embryo development.
  • The findings suggest that varicocele disrupts DNA methylation processes, harming sperm quality and increasing the risk of fertilization failure and poor embryo development.

Skeletal scintigraphy has a pivotal role in detecting a number of bone pathologies, but it has its own limitations because of 2D image acquisition. Hybrid imaging acts as a savior in these cases where it is difficult to distinguish between benign and malignant lesions just on the basis of planar images. We present one such case of known breast carcinoma with abnormal increased radiotracer uptake in the skull which was difficult to characterize as benign lesion such as hyperostosis frontalis or metastatic osseous lesion.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated how a high-fat diet (HFD) affects metabolic disorders in the testicles of male rats and whether different exercise modalities can help counteract these effects.
  • Thirty mature male Wistar rats were divided into groups to test the effects of HFD alone and various exercise intensities, including moderate and high-intensity workouts.
  • Results showed that rats on HFD alone had reduced testicular function, but those who exercised, especially with high-intensity interval training (HIIT), showed improvements in key metabolic markers and supported better male fertility outcomes.

The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is a common knee injury in high-intensity sports, which can cause early career loss in young athletes. Concomitant damage to other knee stabilizers may occur, such as the medial collateral ligament (MCL). Recent studies have shown that knee stability can increase without surgical intervention in patients with ACL and MCL injuries.

Prostate carcinoma is the most common malignancy in males and the second most common cause of mortality. Initially, metastatic prostate cancers tend to involve bones, but these tumours can involve any system. Gallium-68 prostate specific membrane antigen (PSMA) positron emission computed tomography (PET-CT) scan is indicated in prostate cancer patients if PSA levels are raised, and CT and bone scans are inconclusive.

Background: Preterm labor (PTL) is a common and serious pregnancy disorder that can cause long-term neurological issues in the infant. There are conflicting studies concerning whether sildenafil citrate (SC) reduces preterm labor complications. Therefore, the meta-analysis aimed to examine the clinical outcomes in women with threatened PTL who received nifedipine plus SC therapy versus only nifedipine.

Background: Lower-extremity fractures (LEFs) account for >30% of all skeletal injuries, contributing to the global health and economic burden. Fracture epidemiology in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region has been studied little. Health factors and disease epidemiology differ greatly among populations in MENA despite cultural, political, and economic similarities among the region's countries.

The aim of this study is to investigate the impact of running exercise training protocols (ETPs) with varying intensities on inflammatory responses, with a specific focus on the interactions between inflammatory mediators, cytokines, and Leydig cell steroidogenic activity, as well as testosterone secretion. To this end, 24 Wistar rats were subdivided into sedentary control, low (LICT), moderate (MICT), and high (HICT) intensity continuous running ETP groups. After 8 weeks, the expression levels of Toll-like receptor-4 (TLR-4), nuclear factor-kappa-B (NF-KB), interleukin-6 (IL-6), interleukin-10 (IL-10), Tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), and the testicular nitric oxide (NO) content were assessed and compared between groups.

With rising incidence of breast carcinoma in Asian population, staging workup remains a crucial entity in disease management and outcome. Bone scintigraphy for detection of osteoblastic metastasis has remained a convenient choice. However, in the presence of underlying lytic bony lesions sensitivity of 99mTc-MDP bone scan is questionable when compared to 18 F-FDG PET-CT scan.

Background: Percutaneous balloon pulmonary valvuloplasty (PBPV) is the treatment of choice for hemodynamically significant pulmonary stenosis (PS). Currently, the Tyshak balloon is preferred but requires multiple dilatations because of its instability across the valve leading to a watermelon seeding effect. Accura balloon (Vascular Concept, UK) offers an advantage in its self-positioning configuration, variable diameter, and rapid inflation-deflation sequence which shortens the procedural time and valve injury.

The association between injuries to the anterior cruciate ligament, medial collateral ligament, and medial meniscus (MM) has been known to orthopedic surgeons since 1936; O'Donoghue first used the term "unhappy triad" of the knee to describe this condition in 1950. Later studies revealed that involvement of the lateral meniscus is more common than MM in these cases, leading to a change in the definition. Recent studies have revealed that this triad may be primarily linked to knee anterolateral complex injuries.
