Background: Bariatric surgery is a cornerstone intervention for individuals with severe obesity, offering substantial and sustainable weight loss.
Methods: This retrospective cohort study included 186 patients with obesity and Type2 diabetes who underwent sleeve gastrectomy (SG) or Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) between 2009 and 2020 at University Hospital Ayr. Optimal clinical response weight loss was defined as excess weight loss (%EWL) ≥50 % or total weight loss (%TWL) ≥20 %.
Introduction: Bariatric surgery has been shown to provide significant patient benefits in terms of weight loss and mitigation of obesity-linked comorbidities, as well as providing improvements in occupational productivity and patient quality of life. However, the choice of which bariatric surgery procedure provides the most patient benefit in each of these cases is still in question. In this review, we provide a systematic review, with the objective of evaluating associations between different bariatric surgery procedures and mitigation of obesity-linked comorbidities, improvement in occupational productivity, and patient quality of life, concentrating on three areas: obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA), employment prospects, and body image.

Methods And Results: Data were analysed from a comprehensive polyp-level pathology database representing all endoscopy specimens from programme inception in 2010 until 2021. A total of 9800 individuals underwent 13 472 endoscopy procedures, yielding 25 967 pathology specimens and 32 119 diagnoses.
Aims: There is currently no consensus on whether atrial fibrillation (AF) patients at low risk for stroke (one non-sex-related CHA2DS2-VASc point) should be treated with an oral anticoagulant.
Methods And Results: We conducted a multi-country cohort study in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Scotland. In total, 59 076 patients diagnosed with AF at low stroke risk were included.
Recent approaches to the statistical analysis of adverse event (AE) data in clinical trials have proposed the use of groupings of related AEs, such as by system organ class (SOC). These methods have opened up the possibility of scanning large numbers of AEs while controlling for multiple comparisons, making the comparative performance of the different methods in terms of AE detection and error rates of interest to investigators. We apply two Bayesian models and two procedures for controlling the false discovery rate (FDR), which use groupings of AEs, to real clinical trial safety data.

Trial results are also necessarily restricted to the population considered in the study. The availability of routinely collected healthcare data provides a source of information on the performance of treatments beyond that offered by clinical trials, but the analysis of this type of data presents a number of challenges.
