Antidyslipidemic activity of polyprenol from Coccinia grandis in high-fat diet-fed hamster model.

Ethanol extract of Coccinia grandis (L.) Voigt showed significant triglyceride (TG) and cholesterol-lowering effects in dyslipidemic hamster model. Ethanolic extract was fractionated into chloroform, n-butanol and water-soluble fractions and were evaluated.

Constituents of Cissus quadrangularis.

Two new iridoids 6-O-[2,3-dimethoxy]-trans-cinnamoyl catalpol (1) and 6-O-meta-methoxy-benzoyl catalpol (2) along with a known iridoid picroside 1 (3), two stilbenes quadrangularin A (4) and pallidol (5), quercitin (6), quercitrin (7), beta-sitosterol (8) and beta-sitosterol glycoside (9) were isolated from Cissus quadrangularis Linn. The compounds 3 and 7 are first reported from this plant. The structures were elucidated by analysis of their spectroscopic data and by direct comparison with literature.

Comparative diagnostic potentiality of ELISA and dot-ELISA in prepatent diagnosis of experimental Fasciola gigantica infection in cattle.

A glycoprotein (27 kDa) was isolated from crude somatic antigen of Fasciola gigantica by two steps affinity chromatography and was used in early detection of experimental fasciolosis in cattle by indirect ELISA and in dot-ELISA formats. Although, anti-27 kDa antibodies could be detected after 3 weeks post infection (WPI) by dot - ELISA which was one week later than indirect ELISA. The test, dot-ELISA, was more convenient in field application.

27 kDa Fasciola gigantica glycoprotein for the diagnosis of prepatent fasciolosis in cattle.

An indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) using 27 kDa glycoprotein of Fasciola gigantica has been evaluated for its potential use in the diagnosis of bovine fasciolosis. Following experimental infection of rabbits, F. gigantica infection-induced antibodies were isolated and later used as ligands in affinity chromatography for isolation of infection-induced antibody-specific proteins.

Sperm motion characteristics of Garole rams raised for a prolonged period in a semi-arid tropical environment.

The Garole is a prolific but less well known and rare breed of small sheep found in the hot and humid Sunderban region of West Bengal. An ability to breed throughout the year and to graze in knee-deep water, resistance to foot rot and a strong mothering instinct are some of the special features of this breed. Garole rams could provide germplasm to incorporate prolificacy traits by artificial insemination of the nonprolific sheep breeds found in abundance in the semi-arid and arid tropical climates of India.

Comparative immunopotentiating properties of saponin and incomplete Freund's adjuvant coupled to affinity purified larval antigen of Hyalomma anatolicum anatolicum.

Comparative immunostimulatory properties of saponin and incomplete Freund's adjuvant (IFA) were studied using affinity purified 39 kDa larval antigen of Hyalomma anatolicum anatolicum. Significant antibody response to 39 kDa antigen was detected in the sera of rabbits immunized with both 39 kDa plus saponin and 39 kDa plus IFA in comparison to their corresponding control animals. Insignificant differences were noted in the antibody response between the animals of two immunized groups.

Effect of freezing temperature, at which straws were plunged into liquid nitrogen, on the post-thaw motility and acrosomal status of ram spermatozoa.

The present study was conducted to observe the effect of initial freezing temperature on subsequent survival and acrosomal integrity of Malpura and Bharat Merino ram spermatozoa during post-thawing incubation. Semen samples were diluted in TEST-yolk-glycerol extender, loaded in 0.25 ml straws and cooled down to -25, -75 or -125 degrees C freezing temperature using a programmable cell freezer.

Behaviour of the thiodipropionic complex of In(III) and U(VI) at the DME in aqueous and aqueous methanolic solutions.

The complexation of In(III) and U(VI) with thiodipropionic acid has been investigated polarographically in water and water-methanol solutions at 30 +/- 0.1 degrees . All the chelates belong to polaro-graphically reversible systems.
