Importance of Grading Cataracts in Predicting Recovery Time and Final Visual Outcomes After Cataract Surgery.

Introduction: Cataracts have been considered as one of the major causes for reducing the vision-related quality of life and increasing the risk of comorbidities and mortality among the general population.

Aim: This study aimed to assess the importance of grading cataracts in predicting recovery time and final visual outcomes after cataract surgery.

Method: A retrospective consecutive case review of elective cataract surgeries performed in a tertiary care hospital during a three-year period from 2019 to 2021 was studied.

Findings and inferences from full autopsies, minimally invasive autopsies and biopsy studies in patients who died as a result of COVID19 - A systematic review.

Many articles on COVID19 deaths have been published since the pandemic has occurred. On reviewing the articles published until June 2021, the findings were very heterogeneous. Adding to the existing knowledge, there were also some unique observations made in the pathogenesis of COVID19.

Comparison of two surgical techniques in the treatment of multiple gingival recessions sandwiched with a combination of A-PRF and L-PRF.

Aim: The aim of this study is to compare semilunar vestibular incision technique with pouch and tunnel technique in combination with A-PRF and L-PRF for treatment of Miller's class I and II multiple gingival recessions.

Method: This is a randomized, controlled, double-blinded, split mouth study which consists of 16 systemically healthy patients with 96 sites and a mean age of 34.2 years, and divided randomly into 2 groups, Group A consists of semilunar vestibular incision technique sandwiched with A-PRF and L-PRF and Group B consists of Pouch and tunnel technique sandwiched with A-PRF and L-PRF.

ENAP vs LANAP: assessment of revascularization using ultrasound Doppler flowmetry-a split-mouth randomized controlled clinical trial.

Laser-assisted new attachment procedure (LANAP) is a new protocol that has been proposed for the treatment of periodontitis. However, there is little evidence regarding the rate of revascularization and the clinical efficacy of LANAP over conventional periodontal therapies. Hence, this study is done to evaluate and compare the clinical efficacy of LANAP vs Excisional new attachment procedure (ENAP) and also to assess the blood flow in both the techniques using ultrasound Doppler flowmetry.

The need for preventive and curative services for malaria when the military is deployed in endemic overseas territories: a case study and lessons learned.

Background: Sri Lanka has been free from indigenous malaria since November 2012 and received the WHO certificate for malaria-free status in September 2016. Due to increased global travel, imported malaria cases continue to be reported in the country. Military personnel returning home from international peace-keeping missions in malaria endemic countries represent a key risk group in terms of imported malaria.

Gastric Mucormycosis with Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome.

Mucormycosis, is an emerging fungal infection in immunocompromised and diabetic individuals, usually affects rhino-orbito-cerebral, cutaneous and pulmonary regions. But mucormycosis in immunocompetent environment is rare and occurrence of gastric mucormycosis is unusual. We report a case of 19 year old female, with no pre-existing co-morbidities, presented with fever, dysentery, vomiting, and melena for 4 days.

Use of role play in undergraduate teaching of ethics - an experience.

Lecture is the traditional way of teaching adopted in our routine. Learning about medical ethics used to be done by lecture. All of us felt that learning some aspects of ethics requires a deeper understanding of the topics especially those areas involving feelings and emotions.
